Position Overview

Nektar has an exciting opportunity for an Sr. Manager, Finance to join their team.

Coordinates and directs the financial activities for consolidated financial closings, audit reviews and preparation of required external and management financial statements. Directs the development of financial accounting systems required to maintain reporting requirements. Drafts memoranda on complex technical accounting issues and works with senior management and external auditors to support conclusions. Nektar is seeking to hire an Associate Director, Accounting to create accounting policies and procedures for revenue recognition and other commercial-related activities in preparation for the potential launch of bempegaldesleukin. May select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Responsibilities

Establishes operational objectives and work plans. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Assists in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations(s) and may also have company-wide effect. Responds to inquiries from internal and external auditors and other regulatory agencies. Manages external relationships and develops strong business relationships with decision makers of targeted accounts and government agencies. Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, as well as an understanding of the Company. Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements. Conducts analysis and provides insight into financial implications ensuring adherence to financial plans. Provides financial analysis to management to support decisions that promote meeting current financial forecasts and position. Develops budgets, forecasts and variance reports as required by management. Maintains, reconciles and analyzes financial statements to help ensure compliance with GAAP and company policy. Implements and maintains established internal control procedures. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and appropriate tax regulations. Supports the implementation of new financial systems and recommends corrective actions to improve financial reporting and SOX compliance. Provides regular performance feedback and development to direct reports

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a Finance or Business discipline is required. A CPA, MBA or other advanced degree is preferred. Equivalent experience may be accepted. A minimum of 10 years previous accounting experience, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry is required. A minimum of 5 years experience at an auditing company is highly preferred. A minimum of 5 years experience at a publicly traded company is highly preferred. A thorough understanding of accounting principles is essential. Must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of GAAP. Must be able to demonstrate a high attention to detail with an ability to independently prioritize and organize work assignments. Previous corporate accounting experience is required. Must possess excellent computer and analytical skills with proficiency in Excel. Good communication skills both oral and written are required. Previous experience with JDE ERP is highly desired. Must be able to review and understand significant agreements as they pertain to the accounting group.
