What You Will Achieve
Pfizer’s Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is focused on developing therapeutic solutions for patients with rare disorders. We are seeking a laboratory-based Scientist to be part of an interdisciplinary team to execute and oversee preclinical studies in rodents and non-human primates (NHP) in support of Pfizer’s gene therapy portfolio. This role will have a strong focus on gene therapy delivery related to rare neurological and metabolic diseases. The individual will work independently in the laboratory as well as a member of cross-functional and collaborative project teams. The Scientist will use their scientific judgment in making decisions within their area of expertise and proactively gather input from colleagues to ensure efficient and timely execution of mouse and/or NHP studies. This Scientist should have advanced expertise in at least one of the following areas: animal protocol management, mouse/NHP tissue processing, and in vivo study design/execution.
How You Will Achieve It
- Execute preclinical studies to evaluate AAV vector expression in mice
- Tissue sample processing and generate quality data for in vivo AAV biodistribution studies
- Support high-priority projects in the RDRU portfolio
- Work with Contract Research Organizations to manage NHP study protocols
- Coordinate with other Pfizer Research and Development teams, especially the drug safety department to ensure timely execution of NHP studies
Qualifications
Must-Have
- BS or MS in life science with 6+ years of relevant industry experience, or recent Ph.D. graduate.
- Experience with animal colony management
- Hands-on experience with mouse handling and tissue dissection
- Basic understanding of AAV biology
- Strong communication skills to coordinate the deliverables of multiple cross-functional teams
- Self-motivated and the ability to work independently including data analysis and troubleshooting of experimental results
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with NHP study protocol execution and/or management
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology and/or biochemical assay techniques (eg. DNA/RNA extraction, ELISA etc.)
