Linux Embedded Software Engineer

Job Summary

Want to become a key player in creating the next generation of long read DNA sequencers? Join the Instrument Control Software (ICS) team at PacBio: we're responsible for runtime control operations in all of our sequencing instruments. ICS manages operational hardware, including robots, lasers, optics, electromechanical devices, and environmental modules in order to conduct DNA sequencing experiments on the instrument. We are looking for an experienced embedded software systems programmer to prototype and produce working designs for our next-generation sequencers.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Bring up a Linux system-on-a-module from scratch
  • Write production application code to implement sequencer control
  • Write end-to-end functional tests and unit tests to verify software operation
  • Build, install and administer third-party packages
  • Install, test, and debug Linux device drivers
  • Perform kernel debugging

Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelors and/or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related discipline, or equivalent, with 5+ years related experience or equivalent
  • Experience building and deploying Linux distributions on custom microprocessor architectures
  • Familiarity with Yocto or similar
  • Familiarity with BSP (Board Support Packages) and RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems)
  • Experience with multi-threaded real-time software
  • Programming: C++, C# or Java, .NET
  • Object-Oriented Programming, Design Patterns
