Strategic Planning & Operations Senior Manager


What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this role you will provide comprehensive business, operational, and project support to the Oncology Therapeutic Area function and its leadership. This role will have a solid line reporting to the Head Senior Vice President and will have dotted line supporting the Development and Operations Director.

  • Provide operational support to SVP/ Therapeutic Area Head including planning, communications, project management and implementation of functional projects.

  • Support for TA leadership through problem tracking and solving, organizational management, and presentation development.

  • Identify and drive resolution of issues within the TA and at interfaces to other R&D functions, other geographic regions and the Commercial organization; appropriate partner concern of issues to VP/TAH.

  • Be responsible for the Management and Facilitation of the Therapeutic Area Technical Review Committee (TA-TRC) governance committee meetings.

  • Lead and facilitate key departmental meetings (All Staff, Senior Leadership Teams, Program Development Strategy Teams).

  • Facilitate Therapeutic Area goal setting and run against progress.

  • Act as a sounding board / advisor to the TA Head on key activities and issues.

  • Represent business strategy and guide the activities of other functions such as Human Resources, Finance, and Corporate Communications in support of TA objectives.

  • Development and performance of TA communications.

  • Handle TA headcount through structured meetings to review openings, provide departmental consistency, and support HR activity.

  • Develop and lead functional budget, give to the global budget process.

  • Support cross-functional business initiatives as assigned.

  • Ensure staff compliance with Amgen corporate and departmental training and SOP review.

  • Supply to the development of relevant policies, SOPs and associated documents.

  • Identify training, mentoring plans and on-boarding development needs for staff and assist in developing the talent pool.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years experience, or

  • Masters degree and 4 years experience, or

  • Bachelors degree and 6 years experience, or

  • Associate degree and 10 years experience, or

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Business Administration

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and experience in facilitating workshops and group meetings.

  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office applications, EPIC, Box, and EDM Teams.

  • High self-confidence, self-motivation, strong critical and analytical thinking skills.

  • Shown success in Change Management

  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with little oversight and has an outstanding time management and self-prioritization skills

  • Financial budgeting and variance reporting experience

  • Good understanding of success in a matrix environment

  • Ability to engage different personalities and levels within the organization, particularly senior and executive management

  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflict

  • Good knowledge of clinical development and drug development
