GreenLight Biosciences is a venture-backed company that has developed a proprietary, scalable process to produce RNA. GreenLight is focused on developing RNA-based agricultural and human health products in an economical, sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. These products have the potential to radically change the current status quo in both market areas. We are rapidly expanding our Rochester Pilot Plant team and are seeking an exceptional, highly motivated Research Associate to play a key role in production and characterization of our next RNA-based products. This individual will work closely with the development and production teams at the company, performing a wide range of analytical assays to quantify and characterize processes. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, along with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work are required.

Responsibilities:

  •  Execute test methods on analytical instrumentation, including HPLC/UPLC systems.
  •  Perform and report on procedures to quantitatively measure analytes in a variety of matrices for analytical testing support.
  •  Conduct Microbiology Testing, methods and techniques. Fermentation seed flask preparation, inoculation and incubation
  •  Perform lab scale aerobic fermentations for protein production and biochemical reactions for RNA production. 
  •  Be accountable for accuracy of data analysis and timely processing of samples
  •  Work collaboratively with other R&D and operations team members to accomplish project goals and milestones
  •  Provide general laboratory assistance including lab equipment maintenance, preparation of reagents, and ordering/receiving of lab supplies
  •  Evaluate lab practices for compliance and operational excellence improvement on a continuous basis.

Qualifications:

  •  BS. or M.S. in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology or similar with 2 years relevant experience preferred. 
  •  Experience with HPLC/UPLC, Agilent Chemstation, Waters Empower, or similar chromatography data systems a plus.
  •  Familiarity with a variety of microbial testing methods (pour and spread plating & counting, qualitative and quantitative enrichments, selective growth medias, microscopic analysis).
  •  Well versed in aseptic technique (sterilization, handing, media preparation). 
  •  Hands on experience troubleshooting microbial control issues in the laboratory as well as manufacturing. 
  •  Proficiency in using MS Excel, PowerPoint and is required. Experience working with electronic lab notebooks, LIMS systems and statistical software (i.e. JMP, Minitab) is desired.
  •  Hands on experience troubleshooting analytical equipment
  •  Strong attention to detail, problem solving abilities and a willingness to help wherever needed
  •  Ability to achieve and maintain high standards with meticulous attention to detail
