Position Overview

Nektar has an exciting opportunity for a Scientist II, Clinical Pharmacology to join their team.

We are recruiting a highly motivated scientist to drive clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics activities in support of early and late stage clinical programs in immune-oncology and immunology. The candidate will assist in developing and applying clinical pharmacology and biomarker strategies for small molecules and biologics from Phase 1 first in human through Phase 3 and NDA/BLA filings. The candidate will be responsible for execution of development plans, and for defining the relationship between drug exposure and efficacy/safety measures to select the optimal dosing regimen in close collaboration with the pharmacometrics team. Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical pharmacology expertise during study execution
  • Plan and conduct hands-on non-compartmental and compartmental PK/PD data analysis, collaborate with pharmacometricians in the modeling of emerging PK and PK/PD data, interpret, summarize, and present the results to internal and external project teams.
  • Develop clinical pharmacology study designs and collaborate with key stakeholders/teams to write study protocols, informed consent forms, statistical analysis plans, IB, and clinical study reports, ensuring that designs and documents meet global regulatory and compliance requirements and project timelines
  • Prepare CRO and site training
  • Represent clinical pharmacology function in cross-functional study teams
  • Participate in writing publications and making scientific presentations consistent with development strategies
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues within and outside the department
Qualifications / Experience:
  • A minimum of 4 years' related experience and a PharmD or PhD degree with emphasis on clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, or a related scientific discipline. Exceptional non-PhDs with demonstrated capabilities and/or significant experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency, problem-solving capabilities, scientific creativity, and desire to work collaboratively
  • Knowledge of contemporary PK, population PK, QSP modeling concepts, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis, non-compartmental and compartmental PK/PD analysis using Phoenix WinNonlin and/or R.
  • Desire and curiosity to acquire scientific knowledge for portfolio projects
  • Previous experience in biologics and knowledge of human immune system and lymphocyte functions for development of immuno-oncology drugs
  • Flexible, results-oriented, and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, timeline-driven environment
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to convey complex technical information clearly
