COMPANY OVERVIEW:

The company's precision medicine platform, Prometheus 360, combines proprietary bioinformatics discovery methods with one of the world's largest gastrointestinal bioinformatics databases to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop therapeutic candidates to engage those targets. Prometheus is a spin out of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and partners with the hospital system for its biospecimens, clinical data, and bioinformatics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

The lab manager is a self-starting operational leader who will ensure a well-stocked and functional laboratory. The manager will provide general lab familiarization and training to new personnel and enforce proper laboratory safety guidelines. Their responsibilities will include maintaining supplies of general lab consumables, coordinating repairs and calibrations of laboratory equipment and working with scientists to identify methods to meet growing demands. This independent lab manager will be comfortable working in a team environment and is expected to have strong written and oral communication skills. He or she will also collaborate with the team to find efficient means to unifying operations. Based on time and technical skills, the lab will also have the opportunity to contribute hands on to experiments.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Manage supplies and compound inventory (e.g. octet plates, serology pipettes, tips) as well as CAPEX ordering.
  • Help coordinate sensitive shipments (work with shipping companies, maintain proper permitting for international shipments)
  • Train all new employees on lab protocols, ensures safety training is conducted, documented and operationalized effectively
  • Develop and maintain best practices for all lab operations. Supervise interns for daily lab tasks such as lab cleaning/calibration, tissue culture, sanitation, fridge/freezer mapping
  • Coordinate biohazard waste disposal and record keeping
  • Write SOPs and guides for general lab procedures
  • Ensuring all equipment function correctly: initiating necessary repairs and tracking/renewing preventative maintenance service contracts
  • Sits on the safety/biosafety committee
  • Work with the IT group to ensure suitable data infrastructure and serves as the main point of contact for ELN
  • Researches and coordinates the purchase of shared lab services and subscription (e.g. self service freezer/fridges from vendors)

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS or MS in biology/biochemistry or related field is required
  • Must have 1 to 5 years of laboratory experience (lab manager experience preferred)
  • Experience in lab safety, chemical hygiene, fire safety desirable
  • Capable of independently troubleshooting basic problems relating to laboratory equipment
  • Highly organized and efficient.
  • Experience using ELN and compound management systems a plus
  • Ability to coordinate with outside vendors to maintain and repair laboratory equipment.
  • Experience supervising interns/undergraduate students
  • Strong problem solving and collaboration skills
