Job Details

Nurix is looking for a Laboratory Automation Scientist to join our growing drug discovery team. The successful candidate will manage chemical library workflows and operate instrumentation to provide drug discovery scientists with selected project compounds in various formats to support DNA encoded library campaigns, high throughput automated synthesis, biological testing, and lead optimization campaigns. You will partner with chemists, data scientists, software development, informatics, and IT to create database backed workflows and processes to streamline:
  • Compound registration
  • Sample Management and Curation
  • Management of chemical building blocks

You will enable chemists, biologists, assay scientists and management to track compounds, plates and libraries as they progress from idea through synthesis, purification, analysis and testing to have accurate inventory availability information and provide rapid access to compounds for testing.

Responsibilities
  • Routinely operate liquid handling instrumentation (Hamilton, Tecan, Gilson, Optron, Agilent, or other automation platforms) to produce master compound plate formats for distribution.
  • Provide operational support for inventory control, receiving, registration, weighing, storing, sorting, inventory maintenance, labeling, distribution, and disposition of the Nurix compound collection and other critical reagents.
  • Shipping preparation for requested compounds throughout R&D departments and to CRO's.
  • Process sample requests for distribution, record transactions and maintain proper documentation.
  • Integrate laboratory instrumentation with LIMS and inventory management systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic liquid handler system errors and recover operations.
  • Perform liquid handler performance monitoring and other laboratory equipment maintenance.
  • Keep an inventory of supplies used to manage samples and order supplies when needed.
  • Assist with the maintenance, operation and support of sample storage equipment and the associate monitoring system.
  • Design, plan, develop and execute routine Inventory Audit processes to maintain the Nurix Compound collection inventory accuracy.

Required Qualifications
  • BS or higher in Life Sciences Fields (Chemistry preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years experience with at least one of the following industry standard applications such as ChemCart, Dotmatics, GeneData, Benchling, Sample Manager, LabWare, and/or LabVantage
  • Experience in the development, optimization, and preparation of biochemical assay plates
  • Familiarity authoring requirements/specifications, workflow/process diagrams, and project plans.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with laboratory automation and compound processing and tracking, including knowledge and use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and integration of individual hardware components into automated environments is desired.
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated functional use of RDBMS and programming:
    • Understanding and use of SQL or basic API filtering of compound data
    • Visual Basic/VBA or other Instrument macro programming experience (Python/Perl/Java)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expertise in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Minimum 2 years experience programming Liquid Handlers (Hamilton, Tecan, Gilson, Agilent etc.)
  • Familiarity with plate preparations for Acoustic Liquid handlers such as the Labcyte Echo.

Desirable Experience
  • Solid understanding of chemical classification, computerized chemical representation and familiarity with SDF file formats, organization and use for inventory import/export operations.
  • Hierarchical data management of inventory with an understanding of relational links, constraints, required information and how it interacts with LIMS data structures and underlaying tables.
  • Familiarity with open access instrument operation

Company

Nurix Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule therapies designed to modulate cellular protein levels as a novel treatment approach for cancer and immune disorders. Leveraging Nurix's extensive expertise in E3 ligases together with its proprietary DNA-encoded libraries, Nurix has built DELigase, an integrated discovery platform to identify and advance novel drug candidates targeting E3 ligases, a broad class of enzymes that can modulate proteins within the cell. Nurix's drug discovery approach is to either harness or inhibit the natural function of E3 ligases within the ubiquitin proteasome system to selectively decrease or increase cellular protein levels.
