OVID Therapeutics

Ovid Therapeutics Inc. is a New York-based biopharmaceutical company using its BoldMedicineĀ® approach to develop medicines that transform the lives of patients with rare neurological disorders. We believe these disorders represent an attractive area for drug development as the understanding of the underlying biology has grown meaningfully over the last few years and today represents a substantial opportunity medically and commercially. Based on recent scientific advances in genetics and the biological pathways of the brain, we aim to identify, discover and acquire novel compounds for the treatment of rare neurological disorders. We have built a deep knowledge of such disorders, how to treat them and how to develop the clinically meaningful endpoints required for development of a compound in these disorders. We continue to execute on our strategy to build this pipeline by discovering, in-licensing and collaborating with leading biopharmaceutical companies and academic institutions. Ovid's emerging pipeline programs include OV329, a small molecule GABA aminotransferase inhibitor for seizures associated with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and Infantile Spasms; OV882, a short hairpin RNA therapy approach for Angelman syndrome; OV815, a genetic therapy approach for KIF1A associated neurological disorder; and other non-disclosed research targets.

Ovid Therapeutics is seeking an Associate Director, Senior Scientist in Cell and Molecular Biology with extensive experience in Neurodevelopment disease models to join our Research and Early Development (RED) team. The Senior Scientist will play a key role in developing preclinical disease models for the assessment of therapeutic modalities, including small molecule or molecular/genetic therapeutics, at the company's Lab space in Boston, MA. Within this function, this individual will support all aspects of drug development- from lead identification through drug product validation. As part of a collaborative team environment, this individual will be a pivotal player at all levels of preclinical developments and will report to the RED director. The scientist will conduct R&D projects on various cell types and will work with external partners in academia and industry to pilot independent projects that validate these new approaches. The ideal candidate is a creative and productive cell biologist who will also assume a leadership role at Ovid Therapeutics.

  • Help define novel therapeutic approaches and to streamline development activities
  • Able to extend in vitro findings to relevant in vivo models
  • Oversee and manage preclinical research activities at internal labs
  • Coordinate and manage external contract research organizations (CRO) work as needed
  • Function as a liaison between academic collaborators and Ovid research activities
  • Ensure appropriate project management and oversight with multiple studies and therapeutic programs
  • Serve as a key resource, providing scientific knowledge and expertise to cross-functional project teams (CMC, regulatory, program management, BD, etc.)
  • Supervise non-clinical report generation for ongoing studies and results
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with research and development teams to meet project, departmental, and company goals
  • Where appropriate, publish findings and attend scientific meetings

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or related health science field
