JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is seeking a creative and highly motivated individual to join the T cell Therapeutics team, which is focused on making gene and cell therapies more accessible for our patients. You will be assisting our T cell program through support of IND-enabling preclinical experiments, while working closely alongside our colleagues to improve the gene therapy platform and its technologies. This role reports to the Senior Research Associate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cell culture: Routine work with adherent and suspension cell culture, including primary cells
  • Vector production: Consistent production, analytics, storage, and documentation of viral vector
  • Flow cytometry: Execution and analysis of multi-color panels and resulting experiments
  • Molecular biology: Molecular cloning methods including primer design, PCR, restriction digest and ligation, Gibson or Golden Gate assembly, and plasmid preparation
  • Collaboration: Working closely alongside colleagues to share knowledge and drive change
  • Communication: Reviewing and presenting data cross-functionally at group meetings
  • Documentation: Comply with standard laboratory practices and company policies, including documentation of all experimental work in an electronic laboratory notebook

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with 1+ years of laboratory experience, or equivalent
  • Experience in mammalian tissue culture while adhering to rigorous standards of good lab practices, safety, and documentation
  • Experience in molecular biology methods including PCR, restriction digest and ligation, and plasmid preparation
  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving, technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong self-starter and independent thinker with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively work as part of a multi-site team
  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular in-person basis is an essential job function for this position and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person, subject to certain exceptions, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with viral vector production and analytics
  • Knowledge of immunology with a focus on T cell biology
  • Familiarity with protein structure and function/protein engineering
  • Knowledge of Benchling software

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ability to work within and promote a clean and sanitary laboratory environment
  • Wear laboratory personal protective equipment, and work within a biosafety cabinet
  • Perform work in standing and sitting positions and execute periodic repetitive manipulations
  • Some weekend and/or off-shift work may be required, with the ability to travel 5% of the time

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position will be a laboratory bench role that will require light physical work (lift up to 25 lbs.)
