Element Biosciences is a multi-disciplinary startup focused on innovating genetic analysis tools for the research and clinical markets. The Company's technology will broaden the end user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis in healthcare.

We’re in search of a talented Go software engineer experienced with Linux-based development and can contribute to the onboard device development, embedded interface, and multi-threaded services platform. The right candidate has built low-level services on a major Linux distribution. Additionally, the right person will be ready to support their own development and deployment operations (DevOps), automate their testing, and secure and support the system as a whole.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate remotely within a small growing team of fast paced, solution-oriented software engineers from various specialties
  • Plan, design, and develop Linux services that interface to embedded systems and the cloud
  • Automate, manage, and support Linux OS environments in accordance with industry best practices and security guidelines
  • Deploy and debug low-level Linux processes in accordance with best practices throughout the development lifecycle
  • Educate teams on the implementation of software initiatives, providing associated training and documentation as required
  • Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they snowball into problems
  • Leverage extensive knowledge of APIs to design services, and integrate them with existing data providers in polyglot protocols and languages
  • Interface with embedded systems using DMA access protocols
  • Build and design systems that are fault tolerant, highly available, scalable, and observable
  • Take ownership of the entire system, ensuring quality with complete automation testing
  • Stay current with industry trends, making ecommendations as needed to help the company excel



Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering with 5 years of experience developing software using C/C++ or Go (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Demonstrated vast experience in a major Linux distribution; ideally
    Ubuntu
  • Experience with low-level memory data-structures, OS-level primitives and Linux C/C++ libraries
  • Experience with event-driven threading models, queue based workers and
    gRPC services
  • Experience working with Linux, Docker, Snapcraft (Snaps), Ubuntu
  • Knowledge of
    gRPC,
    DMA, circular buffers,
    petri-net control flows
  • Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks
  • Extensive experience with open-source technology, software development, and system engineering
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals within a busy workspace
  • Skilled at working in tandem with a team of remote engineers, or alone as required
