The Company's technology will broaden the end user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis in healthcare.
We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to design and develop novel consumables and microfluidic devices in our Chemistry & Consumables Development team. This position is within our Consumables product development team and will focus on developing new microfluidic consumables that support our mission to advance biological understanding. The engineer will be responsible for microfabrication and microfluidics design, development, testing, product transfer activities, and will play an important role in vendor qualifications, specification development, stability studies, QC and production documentation (e.g. SOP, WI).
The role is a highly cross-functional role across multiple departments and technical disciplines, and the successful candidate must have demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities and rapidly changing priorities. Ideal candidates will have hands-on lab experience in genetic assays and microdevice fabrication, good organizational skills, display a can-do attitude and be flexible about their activities. Expect to be part of a highly energetic and collaborative team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Design, develop, and test novel microfluidic consumables for next generation sequencing and biological applications
· Develop consumables to test new surface chemistry and functionalization methods
· Optimize designs to improve downstream assay performance
· Collaborate with engineering groups to ensure consumable design tolerances are compatible with tooling
· Design and execute experiments to test assays and DNA amplification methods on novel consumables and microfluidic devices
· Design, develop and execute experimental plans, both independently and in small teams, to improve biochemistry on consumables
· Interact closely with researchers and engineers in other teams to find comprehensive solutions
· Participate in intellectual property creation
· Implement and maintain process workflows and good work practices
· Write and version SOPs and work instructions
· Collaborate closely with research teams and ops/manufacturing teams as products evolve
· Prioritize, design, plan and perform experiments
· Analyze data, record and present results
· Other duties as assigned
DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Experience in device fabrication, microfluidics design, wafer processing, and metrology techniques
· Familiar with surface chemistry, biochemistry, analysis, and bioinformatic tools
· Knowledge of product development cycle
· Well organized and good communicator
· Good team player
· Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
· Persistent and ambitious
· Multi-tasking; flexible working in fast paced research environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· B.S. or M.S. degree in mechanical, materials, chemical, bioengineering or a related discipline
· 2 – 4 years in related industry such as genetics, genomics, molecular diagnostics, NGS, and microfluidic device development (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to lift 15 pounds
TRAVEL: N/A
