The Company's technology will broaden the end user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis in healthcare.

The Fluidics group is seeking a senior/staff engineer to contribute to fluidics development at Element Biosciences. This team develops novel fluidics consumables, instrumentation, and other core capabilities that are key components of Element’s technology portfolio. This is a highly cross-functional organization, and to be successful in this role, one must have (1) a strong fundamental understanding of microscale mass transport phenomena, (2) self-driven and motivated to help build a startup company, and (3) work effectively as part of a team.


Responsibilities

  • Take ownership on the innovation of new technologies and products encompassing (but not limited to) areas of fluidics, flow control, liquid handling, microfabrication, hardware engineering, and surface chemistry
  • Develop analytical tools and test protocols to aid in the successful development of robust fluidics hardware
  • Lead troubleshooting investigations into development and product issues
  • Independent analysis and reporting of data to a greater audience (technical and non-technical alike) in order to make data driven decisions
  • Contribute significantly in the lab – designing and conducting experiments to enable rapid development iterations
  • Work with members in cross functional groups (biochemistry, chemistry, systems integration, optics, hardware engineering, etc) 



Requirements

  • PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biophysics, or a related field with emphasis on fluidics
  • Industry experience is a must
  • Direct experience launching micro/milli fluidic products in the biotechnology industry
  • Experience with microscopy, optical systems, and image analysis



Relevant Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with simulation tools (COMSOL, other FEM techniques)
  • Experience with basic programming software (Python, C++, Matlab)
  • Demonstrated ability to relate theoretical fundamentals to experimental data and vice versa
  • Detailed experimentalist with the curiosity to dig deeper without losing sight of project priorities
  • Work effectively as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
