DIRECTOR, PAYER MARKETING

Position Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics is seeking an experienced leader to support our Payer access strategy including marketing, messaging, and contract analytics. The role will report directly to the Senior Director of the Payer Team and collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales, and Strategic Customer functions across GBT. He/she will be responsible for helping to build the value proposition and branding experience, working to maximize our marketing communications to payers, group providers, health systems, and thought leaders. The role will work in conjunction with Brand Marketing and other partners to ensure a seamless positioning for GBT and will require leadership of our market access marketing strategy, to ensure a seamless and unsurpassed patient experience along with innovative programs that ensure patients start and stay on therapy. This will be a HQ office position requiring occasional travel to SSF, CA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Supports the evolution of the payer value proposition including market research and development of tools and resources that effectively communicate the value of products to payer customers
  • Leads key aspects of the payer tactical plan including development of value proposition tools and resources, timelines, and training of internal stakeholders
  • Contributes to the annual Market Access business plan based on market definition, segmentation, and targeting
  • Collaborates with multiple functions including Sales, Market Access, Medical Affairs, CBO partners, Corporate Communications, and outside vendors to effectively execute key commercial activities
  • Advise brand team on US payer strategy for in-line products and execute according to franchise decisions
  • Co-Leads the U.S. market access annual operating plan for assigned brands including project budgeting
  • Manages vendor relationships and associated budgets
  • Utilizes market research to properly plan GBT SCD franchise activities
  • Develops pricing and contracting strategies for GBT, working with Market Access and Brand partners
  • Continually assesses the competitive landscape and responds accordingly
  • Works within regulatory guidelines to achieve goals
  • Works closely with senior leadership team to ensure appropriate resources and organizational alignment is available to capitalize on short-term and long-term business opportunities

 


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have extensive orphan disease product launch experience in the Managed Care sector. A strong working knowledge of/experience with successful payer positioning in rare and orphan product launches.

 

 

 

 

  • Bachelors' degree required and an advanced degree (e.g. MBA, PhD., PharmD) preferred
  • 9-14 years' experience in a pharmaceutical marketing role including 5+ years U.S. managed care experience required. 4+ years of experience leading teams and/or managing people (i.e. employees, contractors) required for leadership positions
  • Demonstrated experience developing and leading the implementation of U.S. market access strategies for specialty medicines under the pharmacy and medical benefit
  • Knowledge of the business models, influence/impact, and decision drivers of U.S. commercial and government payers
  • Understanding of reimbursement methodologies utilized by commercial and government payers including pricing, clinical coding/terminology, and relevant trends in healthcare policy
  • Payer rebate contract analysis and GTN calculation
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with multiple agencies/vendors and lead projects with internal cross-functional teams while managing budgets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with demonstrated presentation skills
  • Ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analyses of complex strategic initiatives
  • Good understanding of regulatory, legal, compliance requirements for success
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team of colleagues without a direct reporting relationship
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex business challenges and data-driven recommendations to senior leaders
  • Clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge and aptitude in complex disease states
  • Experience reviewing marketing materials with medical, legal, and regulatory review committee
  • Driving is an essential duty of the job; candidates must have a valid driver's license and be able to demonstrate a safe driving record to be considered. Once hired employees will be subject to an annual Motor Vehicle Report in accordance with GBT's Driver Motor Vehicle Policy
  • Able to travel occasionally for team meetings and appropriate representation with payer customers (~20-25%)
