Job Scope:
To enhance our presence in Japan we are hiring a Marketing Manager, Japan. This role will lead marketing strategy and execution for the territory. This function requires a hand-on, pro-active and highly motivated individual. The position offers excellent career perspectives with an opportunity to lead a larger marketing group.
The position will oversee localization of marketing materials for existing and new products, incl. creating localized content for print or web to represent our products to current and potential clients in Japan. The individual will develop lead generation campaigns and digital marketing initiatives. The individual will be responsible for data-driven market research projects, providing key marketing metrics to management in support of data-based decision making. The individual will be the conduit for maintaining close working relationship with PacBio sales and support teams to ensure Japan marketing activities are in line with PacBio regional commercial goals.

Job Description:
  • Directly responsible for the marketing function of PacBio in Japan.
  • Work collaboratively with our Singapore-based APAC team and San-Francisco-based Corporate Marketing Department in localizing global initiatives to meet the needs of the Japan market.
  • Refine the positioning of PacBio SMRT™ sequencing products for Japan end-users.
  • Generate compelling tools and content or adapt global content to influence customers, key opinion leaders and industry experts e.g., by using the latest success stories from other customer sites.
  • Nurture reference sites and KOLs of target product in various target market segments.
  • Support the local sales teams by providing training, resources, and messaging for products.
  • Support product launches by creating product-related campaigns and promotions. Convert such messaging into formats such as brochures, slide presentations and blogs.
  • Amplify positioning, content and promotions using social media tools.
  • Oversee the conversion of PacBio's web presence into Japanese language.
  • Conduct market research and communicate market and competitive intelligence to APAC and global teams, informing commercial strategy.
  • Organize events, such as tradeshows, webinars and seminars. Track marketing events and ensure expenditures are maintained within budgetary scope. Generating marketing activity reports for Japan on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that commercial tactics and strategies are consistent with and supportive of PacBio's global objectives. Work with peers and stakeholders in thought leadership development.

Position Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing positions in a global biotech/medtech environment.
  • Strong understanding of scientific applications and technology developments in the field of genomics. Experience with NGS sequencing technology a plus
  • Strategic thinking with ability to work independently and highly adaptable.
  • Very good English language capabilities to communicate with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and a track record establishing relationships with customers and industry partners. Good speaker and presenter.
  • Strong Microsoft Office software skills, in particular Excel and PowerPoint. SFDC experience.
  • Knowledge about marketing database, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns is preferred.
  • Experience in working with creative agencies is a plus.
  • Scientific degree is preferred.
  • The role will require a minimum of 20% in-country travel and occasional int'l travel.
  • This position is based in the Tokyo-Yokohama area.
