Job Description

As part of Amgens Process Development organization, Manufacturing & Clinical Supply (MCS) F&E Engineering Systems continuously strives to be a leader in delivering superior organizational solutions that drive Reliability, Efficiency, Agility and Differentiation in Manufacturing & Clinical Supply (MCS) operations and the operations of the broader manufacturing network.

MCS F&E engineering systems provides organization, engineering and project methodology including maintenance fundamentals to support the delivery of Amgens portfolio of products along with the technical leadership in implementing differentiating manufacturing capabilities.

This role is responsible for the day to day operational support of the maintenance planning & scheduling (P&S) team, establishment of a reliability engineering group, portfolio management including CAPEX and overall business performance of the F&E SLT. These responsibilities will cover all MCS buildings including B23, B7, B30, B20, B31, B25 and B6.

In addition, this role partners with the advanced automation and technology (ATA) teams, the DPS F&E teams and the DSS F&E teams.

Responsibilities
  • Total HC rolling into this role would be approximately 20 engineering, maintenance and project management colleagues supporting all MCS facilities B23, B7, B30, B20, B31, B25 and B6. This includes oversight of approximately 52 JLL colleagues.

  • This role would sit on the F&E SLT.

  • This role would connect and work closely with DSS F&E, DPS F&E, MCS operational excellence/business performance and F&E ATA organizations as well as the GFO organization.

  • The risk profile of this role is high in that the F&E engineering systems team is responsible for the planning and organization of all maintenance tasks with MCS as well as department capital project execution. Reliability engineering falls into this scope as well in addition to environmental sustainability. A critical component of this role will be to appropriately challenge and partner to continuously improve the IFM partnership within the MCS function. Oversight of the IFM services fall under the responsibility of this role.

Outputs
  • Day to day operational support maintenance P&S and reliability engineering operations for B23, B7, B30, B20, B31, B25 and B6.

  • Directly responsible for safety, quality, delivery and cost of all F&E functions within engineering systems.

  • Lead MCS environmental and sustainability initiatives.

  • Lead the prioritization, resourcing and tracking of all MCS departmental CAPEX.

  • Support the development of offline and modelling capabilities to improve productivity predictability and tracking.

  • Deploy and support engineering systems to improve IFM efficiency and performance.

  • Establish an F&E talent pipeline for the engineering systems.

Qualifications

This position offers a unique opportunity to lead key elements of Amgens technology advancement and direct manufacturing support activities in ATO (MCS) but also offers an opportunity for extensive engagement across the network and with internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of engineering experience

OR

Masters degree and 8 years of engineering experience

OR

Bachelors degree and 10 years of engineering experience and 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters in Engineering or Science, with a background in manufacturing, quality, PD.

  • 10+ years experience in engineering, manufacturing, large molecule process, analytical or formulation development in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry

  • Deep understanding of the regulatory and compliance requirements of protein therapeutics

  • Strong leadership skills with significant managerial experience (5+ years) directly managing people, teams, projects, and programs in a matrix environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage with Executive Management on the development and deployment of technology strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders in the implementation of programs involving significant change/new technology

  • Strong communication, collaboration and team building skills; ability to connect with all levels of the organization

Competencies

  • Establish the MCS F&E strategy for day to day execution as well as a reliability engineering organization.

  • Directly responsible for the safety, quality, delivery and cost of all F&E functions within engineering systems.

  • Establish a true predictive and balanced reliability engineering program

  • Standardize planning and scheduling operations across MCS

  • Standardize and level load calibration activities across MCS

  • Actively manage the MRO process and Continuous improvement through IFM Wolseley

  • Will own the MCS Environmental and Sustainability program

  • Ensure alignment with all MCS business performance processes.

  • Maintains a direct connection with the MCS Business Performance team

  • Owns F&E Business Performance

  • Owns primary IFM management (JLL)

  • Implement Business Analytics capabilities

  • Develop and lead MCS PMO/CAPEX process

  • Project processes (ILM alignment, prioritization, cost mgmt.)

  • Connection point to large scale capital projects

  • Point person for Operations Enterprise Risk Management

  • Point person for MCS Site Master Planning and Site Risk Management
