Reporting directly to the Interim Chief Financial Officer and based in Redwood City, California, the Corporate Controller will be a hands-on, experienced, and energetic finance executive with strong technical and accounting skills. The successful candidate must be seen as a business partner and have the ability to act as an insightful change agent within the organization. This role will have direct reports including Accounting & Operations, SEC Reporting, Procurement, and will oversee a team of approximately 10 employees.

The successful candidate will have already held senior finance roles for a public reporting company and will have a proven track record of driving financial results and a demonstrated ability to roll out new processes and standards and experience with systems upgrades and implementations. Experience from within the life sciences industry is preferred.



What you'll do:
  • Oversight of Accounting, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll functions for the entire organization.
  • Responsible for various SEC filings, including the Annual Report, Quarterly Reports, quarterly Earnings Press Releases, and certain financial sections of the company's Annual Proxy Statement.
  • Oversight of implementing, maintaining, and enhancing internal controls in connection with functions on this position's purview. Oversight of company-wide SOX key controls, including review of changes to or implementation of new key controls.
  • Responsible for external audits performed on the company's consolidated financial statements and audits of individual international subsidiaries and the Company's 401 (k) Plan.
  • Prepares meeting materials for Audit Committee of the Board of Directors meetings to review the company's quarterly financial results, draft Earnings Releases, and draft Form 10-Qs or 10-K, as applicable.
  • Leads team in preparing for continued expansion of the company's business plans accordingly for the impact to Accounting, Financial Reporting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable and proactively addresses issues and challenges.
  • Keeps abreast and reviews drafts of various business development initiatives. Provides accounting guidance and feedback as initiatives are being developed to ensure that Business Development leadership and CFO understand the accounting and financial reporting ramifications of potential transactions.
  • Keeps current on accounting and financial reporting trends, new GAAP and IASB accounting pronouncements impacting the Company, SEC guidance, and disclosure trends impacting the Company, etc.
  • Develops collaborative working relationships with leaders throughout the organization, especially in the areas of Finance, Tax, Treasury, Business Development, Information Technology, Procurement, Legal and Human Resources.
  • Oversight from a "business owner" perspective of ERP applications utilized by this leader's functional departments.

About you:
  •  The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and technical experience:
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to work hands-on and with a sense of urgency, in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present to and engage with a wide range of audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters in Accounting or MBA is a plus
  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive, relevant experience, with a mix of public accounting and global public company industry experience, ideally within the biotech or pharmaceutical industries
  • Supervisory experience required and passion for managing and motivating a team of finance professionals
  • Superior leadership skills and the ability to keep the team focused on steady improvement
  • Possesses analytical, strategic, business planning, communication, and teamwork/collaboration skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to foster relationships, and the capability to develop innovative ideas and solutions
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory environments
  • Revenue stage pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience preferred
  • The ideal candidate will thrive on challenges, be highly collaborative and exhibit strategic agility S/he will manifest trust and have high ethics and integrity
