Who You Are:

The Senior Manager - R&D Accounting is an integral part of a growing accounting team and oversees the R&D-related accounting close process--from preclinical, clinical, contract to manufacture. This position currently reports to the Controller but will partner extensively with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team to ensure a thorough understanding of various R&D programs/initiatives and lead the accurate and timely completion of the R&D-related accounting close. A successful candidate is someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced and rapidly growing environment, result-oriented, analytical, strong attention to detail, and highly always motivated to deliver excellence in their work.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of R&D accountants and manage the monthly R&D-related accounting close to ensure accurate and timely completion of expenses, prepayments and deposits, and accrual accounts  
  • Review and/or prepare journal entries and related supporting work papers. Ensure quality of work products and compliance with SOX requirements
  • Review and analyze invoices, read contracts, and compare/ reconcile data to POs, budgets, and/or work orders to determine the appropriate accounting treatments
  • Prepare R&D fluctuation analysis by segments (e.g., subsidiaries, programs, phases, etc.) as well as R&D-related general ledger account fluctuation analysis
  • Review and/or prepare general ledger account reconciliations and other R&D analysis requested by management
  • Primary liaison between the R&D accounting team and FP&A team regarding the monthly R&D activities under review. Guide the proper accounting treatment of R&D-related transactions
  • Coordinate with other accounting team members in identifying, researching, and documenting significant accounting matters
  • Manage the quarterly review, interim and year-end audit, as well as tax requirements relating to R&D-related accounts and associated activities. Drive closure of any internal/ external request/open items on a timely basis
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the R&D-related accounting close cycle, enhance existing procedures
  • Assist the Controller and other members of the accounting team on ad hoc projects, as needed


Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:
  • BA/BS degree in accounting. CPA preferred.
  • Must have 8+ years of R&D-related accounting experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceuticals industry
  • 7+ years of public accounting (Big 4) in biotech/pharmaceutical clients (with experience auditing R&D accounts) is highly preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong work ethic including sound judgment, outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently
  • Able to work with a high volume of transactions in a fast-paced environment
  • Results and goal-oriented mindset with an opportunistic eye towards process improvements
