Job Details

JOB PURPOSE

The Laboratory Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting Cambridge laboratories in daily operations to enable Sana scientists to develop innovative medicines for patients. You will be a critical point of contact for lab users/stewards: responsible for procurement, shipping and receiving of consumables and samples, executing or assigning tasks to others as appropriate; working with stakeholders and external support to implement scalable and anticipatory service models. This role reports to the Head of Laboratory Operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as a member of the Cambridge LFO team, local and cross-site safety committees, and main point of contact for lab stewards. Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in developing relationships and communication paths between the Lab Operations team and Cambridge lab user groups to continually improve lab operations service models
  • Triage, respond, and/or route service requests from lab users regarding safety, lab equipment, space, lab supplies, bio/chem inventory and waste. Perform daily walks of lab spaces to collect feedback from lab users as well
  • Assist in implementation of vendor managed inventory for lab consumables, then provide oversight and direction to vendor technicians regarding supply types, locations, and stock levels
  • In collaboration with stakeholders and peers, develop standard task lists and standard operating procedures to ensure that Cambridge laboratories are clean, organized, and well-maintained
  • Assist in developing RACI for laboratory task categories, coordinating with the Head of Lab Operations, lab stewards, the Facilities team, and external service providers
  • Maintain Lab Asset tracking system for asset lifecycle management and ensure data accuracy for maintenance/calibration scheduling
  • Assist in managing service contracts for equipment maintenance and instrumentation calibration as needed until instrumentation group and R&Rs are fully defined
  • Lead periodic pipette calibration activities, scheduling with lab users and partnering with internal or external resources for execution of calibration

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of demonstrated laboratory operations experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical research or development environment
  • Demonstrated highly effective communication and organization skills
  • Ability to develop creative solutions, educate others and implement corrective actions in meaningful, pragmatic ways
  • Proven collaborative and teamwork skills and experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a creative and proactive problem solver; keen ability to anticipate needs in a lab environment, solving problems with sound judgment
  • Experience managing and prioritizing inputs from diverse stakeholders to deploy a plan that meets the needs of the business
  • Ability to work independently
  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular in-person basis is an essential job function for this position and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person, subject to certain exceptions, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Vendor Managed Inventory systems
  • Experience teaching or conducting trainings

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position requires 24-hour response availability for emergency situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Significant standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to move and lift boxes and equipment up to 45 lbs
