A significant component of the role will also be centered around feasibility work for potential new products and applications. It will focus on rapid thermal cycling, nucleic acid quantification techniques, cost-effective approaches to optical excitation and detection, fluid sensing technologies, and testing and development of correction and calibration algorithms

  • Lead the product development of complex optical subassemblies from architectural concept through production
  • Undertake feasibility work for incorporating novel sensing technologies into instrumentation, designing rapid thermal cycling approaches, and other technology investigations that might offer advantages over currently implemented approaches.
  • Collaborate with the broader team to ensure successful completion, test, and deployment of various instrument iterations throughout development. This may include Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Systems. Engineers, Software Engineers, Service Engineers, and Biological Scientists.
  • Ensure proper engineering documentation and document control as required by the project. This may include design, regulatory, test, and planning documents
  • Assess where outside vendors and suppliers are needed and coordinate as necessary

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of experience within the product development industry
  • Solid background in optical science and engineering
  • Familiar with various optical components including light sources, sensors, and imaging modalities, and opto-mechanical integration
  • Hands-on experience with building optical systems, performing optical alignment and building test setups.
  • Experience in designing optical systems for fluorescent measurement
  • Experience in product development of complex, precision instruments from concept through production
  • Ability to perform data analysis, trouble shooting and problem solving in building complex and interdisciplinary instruments
  • Flexibility to multi-task and perform a wide range of activities

  • Experience with thermal or fluidic design is a plus
  • Strong electrical knowledge and ability to breadboard circuitry a plus
  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
