Senior Manager, Medical Communications

The Senior Manager, Medical Communications is responsible for leading and developing brand-specific scientific communication strategy for Omeros' pipeline therapies. Reporting to the Head of Medical Affairs, this position contributes to all scientific and clinical communications and is responsible for the integration of disease state and clinical trials disclosure. Responsible for planning and executing congress activities, IME, promotional review and medical review activities. Develops highly engaging and innovative scientific symposia and content for the medical booths (live and virtual).

This individual will have strategic and operational responsibilities for all aspects of medical communications and is the interface of the Company for all people involved in scientific communication matters.

Who is Omeros?

Omeros is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering, developing and commercializing small-molecule and protein therapeutics for large-market and orphan indications targeting inflammation, complement-mediated diseases, disorders of the central nervous system and immune-related diseases, including cancers. In addition to its commercial product OMIDRIA (phenylephrine and ketorolac intraocular solution) 1%/0.3%, Omeros has multiple phase 3 and phase 2 clinical-stage development programs focused on complement-mediated disorders and substance abuse. Omeros also has a diverse group of preclinical programs including GPR174, a novel target in immuno-oncology that modulates a new cancer immunity axis recently discovered by Omeros. Small-molecule inhibitors of GPR174 are part of Omeros' proprietary G proteincoupled receptor (GPCR) platform through which it controls 54 new GPCR drug targets and their corresponding compounds. The company also exclusively possesses a novel antibody-generating platform.

What are your job responsibilities?

  • Develops, implements, and executes the medical communication plans across the hematology/oncology stem cell transplant complement therapeutic area and nephrology therapeutic area within the Omeros pipeline
  • Partners with the Medical Director to ensure accurate and relevant content for communication pieces
  • Responsible for internal and external communications such as core slide libraries, proactive and reactive materials for field use, backgrounders and FAQs, congress booth materials, and leading congress symposia
  • Leads the cross-function team in the development and execution of integrated, consistent medical communications plans that support the complement and nephrology franchises (clinical, medical, commercialization) objectives and strategies
  • Leads the development and execution of all scientific content for the medical booth (virtual and live) for global/international conference
  • Leads the development of all aspects of scientific symposia including consideration of style and approach of symposia, partnering with speakers on content development, execution of event and metrics/KPIs
  • Coordinates and leads congress/abstract assessment, congress coverage, deliverables (daily and final report), and relevant communications
  • Partners with country and regional legal/regulatory/compliance counterparts to ensure content is developed in accordance to country specific regulations/laws
  • Partners with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure an aligned approach to all aspects of congress development and execution including medical affairs, commercial, corporate communications, clinical development, and advocacy
  • Tactical implementation involving collaboration with numerous internal stakeholders across the Omeros organization, as well as academic experts and HCPs in the external cellular transplant and nephrology community
  • Ensures appropriate tracking, execution, and budgeting for the medical communications tactical plan for assigned product(s)
  • Works cross-functionally with the Publications Lead and Medical Information Lead to ensure strategic and tactical alignment
  • Develops effective processes and organization that will facilitate efficient, timely development and dissemination of high-quality scientific communication plans to meet business needs
  • Works with Medical Affairs functions and cross functional team to ensure information transfer and appropriate utilization of publications into secondary communication and customer engagement tactics
  • Communicates medical communication planning objectives and processes to key stakeholders and ensure their proactive involvement in delivery
  • Develops and reports metrics to highlight medical communications activities in support of brands
  • Serves as the liaison between Non-Clinical, Clinical, Regulatory, HEOR, and Marketing regarding medical communications
  • Explores & introduces alternative outsourcing & contracting options, as necessary, to support the preparation of medical communications tactics
  • Works cross-functionally within Medical Affairs on publications and medical information as needed
Education, Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required:

  • Advanced Degree (PhD, PharmD, MD)
  • 5+ years of direct industry experience within the Pharmaceutical Medical Affairs environment with a focus on Medical Communications in a leadership role within the medical communications profession
  • 3+ years of hematology/oncology experience; cellular transplant and nephrology experience is preferred
  • Prior work-related experience in the healthcare industry
  • Medical Education and IME experience
  • Experience writing background materials, slide creation, and medical education
  • Understanding of scientific methodology with ability to understand clinical development including the phases, processes and techniques used within a clinical development environment from protocol design through regulatory submissions
  • Proven, successful track record to project manage
  • Demonstrated strong influence management skills with the ability to lead cross- functional teams and work effectively across departments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills to all levels of the organization including executive management
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors, if needed
  • Fluent in English, both orally and written
  • Proficiency using medical/scientific publication databases/resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

Other Requirements:

  • Moderate (~25%) overnight travel is required
