Day One was founded to address a critical unmet need: children with cancer are being left behind in a cancer drug development revolution. Our name was inspired by the “The Day One Talk” that physicians have with patients and their families about an initial cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. We aim to re-envision cancer drug development and redefine what’s possible for all people living with cancer—regardless of age—starting from Day One.

SUMMARY: 

This role is directly responsible for the day-to-day financial oversight of Day One Bio’s clinical trials, will support the clinical trial team and Finance team in all financial accounting, reporting, and analysis associated with running clinical trials. This person will be the gatekeeper of all accounting related to the clinical trial activities, monthly actual reporting, monthly accrual, re-forecasts, the long-range model, and project modeling. This position reports to the Senior Director, Finance & Corporate Controller for a short period of time while the Assistant Controller joins the company. The role requires the Sr. Accountant to produce high-quality work while maintaining professionalism, attention to detail, an internal control mindsight, and the highest degree of integrity. An ability to communicate with internal clinical trial team members as well as external business partners is essential.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applies accurate accounting standards based on clinical trial set-up and activity details
  • Clinical Research Organization (CRO) budget oversight
  • Liaison with external stakeholders like CROs
  • Ensures proper and efficient controls are implemented to track and analyze the clinical trial financial results
  • Assists in the review and coding of the monthly invoicing from CROs
  • Assist with CRO budget set-up and tracking
  • Prepares timely monthly recording of expenses
  • Reconciliation of invoices from various clinical trial vendors, including site payments
  • Tracks Pass-thru Expense for patient and site activity
  • Provides a monthly review of commitment to actual results to the clinical trial team from a cash and accrual basis
  • Performs variance analysis comparing forecast to actual results to identify drivers of change in results
  • Reviews contracts change orders to identify the financial impact
  • Reviews contracts with the clinical trial team ensuring accuracy of financial assumptions
  • Work on and maintain accruals related to pre-clinical activities and translational work
  • Manage prepaid, accrued expenses and other balance sheet and income statement
  • Ad hoc requests as needed

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

 

Education:

  • Requiring Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Advanced degree MBA a plus

 

Experience:

  • Requires 3-5 years of Finance and Accounting experience
  • Previous clinical trial experience required
  • Previous Project Accounting experience a plus
  • Strong General Ledger knowledge
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of financial analysis and modeling
  • Ability to recognize and address data integrity issues
