  • The Associate Director, Clinical Contracting understands cost drivers associated with contract types and drive negotiations that ensure the best value for quality, pricing, and service. Highly competent in negotiation, strategy and contracting business standards.
  • Demonstrates an expert level of outsourcing and technical competencies across multiple contract types and therapeutic/functional areas and is able to make decisions through careful evaluation of benefit/risk and provide leadership and guidance to direct reports in complex decisions.
  • Communicate, liaise and train internal customers on the contracting process and managing the life cycle of a contract. Demonstrate subject matter expert (SME) status and leadership by providing key strategic support and leadership in cross functional process improvement initiatives.
  • Build, manage and develop staff. Provide clear guidance and subject matter expertise to support, train and mentor direct reports. Develops strategy and provide guidance to team members for complex negotiations to maximize the value for R&D and ensure subject matter expertise is provided.
  • Responsible for reviewing contracts and associated documents, prior to execution, ensuring appropriate quality and compliance standards are met. Resolve issues that may be identified in support of timely execution. Demonstrate qualifications needed to train and QC work on all contract types negotiated by direct reports including many complex contract types.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and effectively present key information to departmental management. Facilitate interpretation and understanding of data. Identify issues, cost savings and adjustments and work on the solution of these topics. Responsible for timely transparent communication of status of negotiations with key internal and external stakeholders. Work closely with TA/FA's, Legal, OEC and suppliers to resolve contract issues.
  • Responsible and accountable for both the guidance and leadership of a team of 4 to 8 direct reports and oversight of external vendor and its staff. Tasked with supporting the growth and development of direct reports. Responsible for performance, development, and maintenance of effective collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, lead and staff process improvement initiatives and/or strategic sourcing initiatives. Develop and implement strategy for optimization of process with key research centers.
  • Analyze organizational needs and design processes using internal and external knowledge in a collaborative manner and be able to envision the impact of potential business processes could have cross functionally prior to implementation. Prioritize and assign workload across the portfolio to ensure adequate resources to support business needs. Escalate resource concerns strategically and prospectively along with solutions to senior outsourcing management leadership to meet peak demand.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS is required; Degree in health-related, business and/or finance related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in research setting with an emphasis on business (contracting, outsourcing, finance) and technical (biology, clinical, CRO) aspects.
  • Demonstrated management experience required with demonstrated experience in managing direct reports both from a workload and development perspective.
  • Demonstrated advanced problem solving skills in a team environment, have excellent negotiation or influencing skills and solid leadership skills with demonstrated expertise of influence expectations and process development as well as improvement.
  • Proven organizational, collaborative teamwork and leadership skills with an ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Self-directed and fosters a team environment, able to work on multiple projects concurrently, and meet project and staff commitments. Customer support focused expertise is required.
  • Considered a subject matter expert and competent in the application of key business procedures (SOPs, ICH, Ethics and Compliance and Fair Market Value).
