Associate Director, Bioanalytical and Biomarker Sciences

Location: La Jolla, CA

Description:

We are seeking an experienced scientist to lead the bioanalysis efforts for several research and development programs at Avidity Biosciences in La Jolla, CA.  This is a key position within the Bioanalytical and Biomarker Sciences team that will contribute to preclinical and clinical bioanalysis strategy, assay development, and implementation.  The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to identify, develop, and implement bioanalytical strategies in the pharmaceutical industry. Experience with transfer of bioanalytical methods to external service providers and familiarity with validation standards for bioanalytical assays in support of IND-enabling and clinical studies is highly desired.  The ideal candidate is expected to be a strong team player and leader who enjoys scientific discovery and can communicate and collaborate in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop novel methods of bioanalysis to support nonclinical and clinical studies, with an emphasis on quantification of antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates and their components
  • Manage relationships with external service providers, including method transfer, method development, method validation, and sample analysis in a GLP environment
  • Lead a team of scientists to efficiently design, execute, analyze, and report experiments that support the bioanalytical needs across multiple programs
  • Collaborate and communicate across departments, participate on drug development project teams, and function as a bridge between preclinical and clinical development
  • Demonstrate effective presentation and verbal communication at internal meetings as well as clear written communication

Requirements:

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline; with 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Thorough knowledge of regulated bioanalysis in nonclinical development, along with translation of those assays into clinical development
  • Desirable for applicant to be familiar with bioanalytical method development and validation commensurate with regulatory decision making
  • Experience with antibody conjugates and/or oligonucleotide therapeutics is highly desired
  • Prior hands-on experience with various laboratory techniques including tissue homogenization, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, HPLC, ELISA, Nanostring, and RNA-seq
  • Ability to conduct self-directed research and to work effectively in a dynamic environment with a diverse team of coworkers
  • Solid written and oral communication skills, enthusiasm, integrity, exceptional problem-solving skills, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are necessary
