We are currently searching for a Biologist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

 

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include, but are not limited to: mononuclear cell extraction from peripheral blood and human tissue, high-dimensional flow cytometry, functional studies of immune cells, DNA/RNA/protein isolation and purification from a variety of sources, DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis including RNAseq and other advanced techniques, ELISA, cell culture, histology, etc.
  • Process human tissue and blood samples and maintain and organize human blood and tissue biorepository.
  • Perform flow cytometric staining, acquisition on spectral and conventional flow cytometers, and analysis.
  • Design and perform studies to characterize and assess human immune cell (including monocyte, T cell and B cell) function ex vivo from patients with inflammatory disorders.
  • Perform SNP genotyping and/or sequencing analyses of human DNA samples.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide, NIH-wide, and national and international meetings and for publication.
  • Perform quality control of the laboratory.
  • Generate laboratory records to support laboratory research, and independently performing necessary calculations.
  • Write report(s) of findings, state methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved, and results of experiments.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with the supervisor as part of the planning process for subsequent studies, and present these findings in individual weekly meetings with the task leader as well as lab group meetings.
  • Provide training to students and other laboratory personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures, techniques, etc.
  • Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc. required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a molecular biological laboratory is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing molecular biology research.
  • Knowledge of or willing to learn principles of immunology, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, single cell analyses, bioinformatics and systems biology.
  • Experienced in maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
