The Position

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Structural Biologist with expertise in crystallography to join the Drug Discovery team at Nurix.

Nurix is devoted to unlocking the therapeutic potential of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) in the areas of oncology and immuno-oncology, by utilizing the mechanistic and structural insights to guide drug discovery efforts.

The successful candidate will work at the interface between Nurix's DNA encoded library (DEL) powered drug discovery engine and the medicinal chemistry group to provide scientific leadership for the characterization and optimization of novel chemical matter that modulates the UPS.

This individual will work closely with an experienced team of interdisciplinary scientists and have regular opportunities to present findings to project teams and senior management.

The candidate should have an extensive knowledge of biomacromolecular structure function relationships and excellent communication and presentation skills.

The ideal candidate will be resourceful, organized, meticulous, and enjoy working on challenging new drug targets.

  • Ph.D. in Structural Biology or a related discipline with 0+ years post graduate experience or MS with 5+ years relevant industry experience,
  • Hands-on expertise on preparation and characterization of proteins,
  • Proficient in protein crystallization strategies and the operation of high throughput crystallization robotics,
  • Skilled in the reproduction and optimization of crystallization conditions and protein crystal mounting in cryo loops,
  • Experience in interpretation and processing of X-ray diffraction data,
  • Competency in modelling electron density maps and refining structural models,
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously,
  • Fit with Nurix culture and values.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on expertise on other structural biology approaches like Cryo-EM, SAXS, NMR spectroscopy or Mass Spectroscopy
  • Hands-on expertise on preparation and characterization of protein - protein complexes,
  • Practical knowledge of interpreting and modelling small molecule protein interactions,

  • General knowledge of immuno-oncology, biochemistry, and drug discovery,
  • General knowledge of protein ubiquitylation biochemistry and pathways,
  • Have a record of published work and of presentation at conferences.

Company

Nurix Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule therapies designed to modulate cellular protein levels as a novel treatment approach for cancer and immune disorders. Leveraging Nurix's extensive expertise in E3 ligases together with its proprietary DNA-encoded libraries, Nurix has built DELigase, an integrated discovery platform to identify and advance novel drug candidates targeting E3 ligases, a broad class of enzymes that can modulate proteins within the cell. Nurix's drug discovery approach is to either harness or inhibit the natural function of E3 ligases within the ubiquitin proteasome system to selectively decrease or increase cellular protein levels.

Nurix's wholly owned pipeline comprises targeted protein degraders of Bruton's tyrosine kinase, a B-cell signaling protein, and inhibitors of Casitas B-lineage lymphoma proto-oncogene-B, an E3 ligase that regulates T cell activation. Nurix is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
