Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Scientist with expertise in cell therapy and process development to launch and lead a group within Nurix's NxACT Protocol Development Group in Pittsburgh under the direct supervision of the VP of Cell Therapy.

Nurix is devoted to unlocking the therapeutic potential of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) in oncology, immuno-oncology and other therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will support Nurix's immuno-oncology program by translating innovative research and development programs to cGMP manufacturing and play a leading role in building and implementing new clinical protocols, developing translational research, and developing/overseeing academic liaisons.

This individual will work closely with an experienced team of interdisciplinary scientists and will have regular opportunities to present findings and opinions to project teams and senior management. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, resourceful, very organized and focused, and enjoy working in a dynamic team environment.

Primary Functions
  • You will be responsible for starting up and leading process development improvements of potency testing within our 'drug product', Drug-enhanced Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (DeTIL), for clinical phased development programs to ultimately include oral dosing of drugs targeting CBL-B
  • You will be responsible as lead of a process development team for the design and execution of studies required to establish efficient and effective potency measures of drug product including scale up, technology transfer, and interaction with our contract manufacturers, aiming for registration
  • You will also be expected to proactively contribute to creative solutions for streamlining integrated development plans, manage and develop budgeting, and to manage risk in collaboration with other teams within the organization, working within a matrix including San Francisco and Pittsburgh
  • Consistent with the goal of near bedside manufacturing, you will help to facilitate, conduct and execute clinical protocols and development at the Pittsburgh site and broader application at the Translational Research Cancer Center Consortium (TRCCC) in the mid-Atlantic along with other more distant sites in the US and Europe

Qualifications
  • PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience. Terminal Degree with emphasis in Cell Biology, Immunology, Bioengineering, cancer biology or related field is preferred
  • Previous experience managing/mentoring scientists in a laboratory setting
  • Technical understanding and experience in biopharmaceutical process manufacturing operations in an industrial cGMP environment
  • Strong background in cell culture operations including hands on experience with bioreactors and cell separation systems is required
  • Experience in TIL/CAR-T cell culture technologies (GREX, CliniMACS, Prodigy, Sepax, Fresenius/Kavi-Lovo, etc.) and/or process analytical technologies is a plus
  • Excellent communication, technical writing and presentation skills and the flexibility to work on multiple projects as needed
  • The successful candidate will be strongly aligned with Nurix's culture and values; he/she will be team-oriented and highly collaborative with a hands-on approach
  • The candidate should be enthusiastic, driven, and have the ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic start-up environment

Company

Nurix Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule therapies designed to modulate cellular protein levels as a novel treatment approach for cancer and immune disorders. Leveraging Nurix's extensive expertise in E3 ligases together with its proprietary DNA-encoded libraries, Nurix has built DELigase, an integrated discovery platform to identify and advance novel drug candidates targeting E3 ligases, a broad class of enzymes that can modulate proteins within the cell. Nurix's drug discovery approach is to either harness or inhibit the natural function of E3 ligases within the ubiquitin proteasome system to selectively decrease or increase cellular protein levels.

Nurix's wholly owned pipeline comprises targeted protein degraders of Bruton's tyrosine kinase, a B-cell signaling protein, and inhibitors of Casitas B-lineage lymphoma proto-oncogene-B, an E3 ligase that regulates T cell activation. Nurix is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
