Summary

The Director is responsible for executing Oncology focused transactions in support of prospective Business Development initiatives. These initiatives will include, but not be limited to, product or Company acquisitions, in/out-licensing activities, strategic co-commercialization/ co-development transactions, Option deals, R&D collaborations, ARO collaborations, CDx transactions or other structures as needed. The Director will be a key member of the deal team as assigned by the VP, Global BD and may be asked to lead required diligence, term sheet development or negotiation of definitive agreements. The Director will consult with US and Tokyo Global Finance to align on assumptions embedded in the financial analyses. Required metrics may include raNPV/NPV, raIRR/IRR, NPV Break-Even modeling, Comparables analysis, sensitivity analyses of key variables (POS, COGS, GTN etc.) and other relevant metrics as assigned or indicated. The Director may be asked by the VP of Global BD to provide strategic fit and commercial assessments in the form of "Litmus" tests and/or to carry out Oncology/Other therapeutic area market research activities. The position is also responsible for providing training and development to junior members of the team as appropriate. Participation on inter-functional teams is an important aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Deal Team Participation
    Act as an integral member of the transaction deal team
    • Act as a Transaction Manager - interface with Tokyo BD and DSE (or ASCA) as needed
    • Manage flow of information among regions and key internal stakeholders
      o Sharing of Target provided information
      o Global BD generated Analyses - Litmus, market research, financials, diligence materials
      o Coordinate integration of Territorial P&Ls into Global P&L in concert with Finance
    • Respond to Q&A from Finance, Tokyo BD, Oncology Business Group, CE and other key stakeholders
    • As assigned, act as the Deal Lead, conduct necessary functional area DD and be responsible for completion of the DD Summary Deck including an in depth knowledge of key answered and unanswered questions for each discipline
    • Provide Business Analytics for specific deals
    • Comparables Analysis based on Deal type (ADC, Small Molecule, Oncology or other therapeutic area)
    • Assess and recommend partners most appropriate to support our Strategic Initiatives
    • Vet each opportunity for consistency with established Portfolio Strategy
    • Lead development of B-E analyses by assembling required inputs - COGS, CDP (Spending, Timing), LOE, S&M expense
  • Conduct situational analyses and make pro-con and risk-reward trade off recommendations to senior management including but not limited to LCM opportunities, divestitures, and acquisitions, and lead related transactions for DSI informed by the individual's significant transaction and financial experience
  • Cancer Enterprise (CE) Strategy Development
    In concert with CE leadership, support CE in its ongoing development of the Alpha and ADC Strategies.
  • Assure functional excellence by training and development of more junior staff and Direct Report(s) in the appropriate methods of business analysis. Actively evolve training with industry and discipline trends to assure Daiichi Sankyo has knowledge of and access to "best in class" tools and methodologies.


Qualifications: Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Education Qualifications (from an accredited college or university)
  • Bachelor's Degree in business or finance related discipline required or
  • MBA required
  • JD preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 4 or More Years experience in life science business development and/or a corporate finance/financial analysis role within the pharmaceutical industry required
  • 4 or More Years Significant prior contract negotiation & deal experience (e.g., M&A, In-Licensing, Strategic Partnerships) required
  • 4 or More Years Significant lead negotiator role experience preferred


Travel

Ability to travel up to 20% Travel as required by deal process requirements
