Job Title : Senior Lab Support Engineer, R&D Lab Services

 

The Senior Lab Support Engineer will be responsible for oversight of R&D Concierge Service activities in Lake County, IL. This role will administer various laboratory equipment support functions throughout AbbVie Lake County R&D sites and provide guidance to peer lab support personnel within the Concierge Services group. This role will serve as liaison among internal AbbVie personnel as well as external organizations, to ensure suitable equipment selection, purchasing (equipment and services), installation, calibration/service/repair, and decommissioning. These functions will be executed with consideration for laboratory needs, as well as quality and cost effectiveness of internal and external service providers.

Responsibilities :

  • Support department manager with collection and analysis of service contract data to develop and implement global service contract management system.
  • Collect and analyze local and non-LC lab equipment data (including financial/spend data, asset utilization, and service contract data, etc.) for developing strategies to optimize performance and reduce service cost.
  • Develop and issue vendor service performance and equipment cost of ownership report.
  • Review warranty and service contract coverage to optimize service provider selection.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop processes supporting Concierge Services functions.
  • Develop, generate, and review Cognos reports to monitor service performance and cost.
  • Evaluate internal and external performance failures to identify potential for improvement.
  • Document and resolve internal and vendor service complaints.
  • Provide guidance to LC lab support personnel to ensure robust onsite lab services.
  • Review service work orders for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
  • Ensure service activities and related expenses are thoroughly and consistently documented.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP requirements (training, documentation, procedures, etc.).
  • Interface with vendors, OEM, and internal service organizations to coordinate laboratory equipment service needs.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • College Degree or equivalent experience. A technical degree (Engineering or Science) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cGMP and basic regulatory requirements.
  • At least 5+ years of experience with laboratory equipment and practices, either having served as a lab analyst, lab equipment service provider, or both.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills capable of accommodating a diverse audience.
  • Proficient in data entry, analysis, and presentation, particularly within Maximo, Cognos, and SAP environments.
  • Experienced with resource planning and scheduling, including coordination of direct or indirect staff members, and measurement of service performance.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Capable of independently developing creative solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude with a great desire to contribute to our success.
