The Assistant Vice President for Psychiatry Marketing has primary accountability for strategy development, implementation, and execution of a commercial growth strategy for a $2+ business which is expected to grow to $5B+.  The AVP leads a team of 10 marketers to ensure market insight gathering, the development and flawless execution of brand strategy and annual tactics for Vraylar and Viibryd.  The AVP responsibilities include: portfolio strategy, professional campaign development, consumer campaign development, lifecycle strategy, and product launches.  This position works in close collaboration with cross functional groups to impact product performance; in particular, sales, R&D, Medical Affairs, managed markets, trade and distribution, finance, supply operations and commercial operations.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for a comprehensive marketing plan for each of the brands and programs for our key customers, including the development of budgets and sales and production forecasts to achieve sales and profit objectives.
  • Develops and maintains a customer focus that includes effective working relationships with key KOL customers in conjunction with sales and campaign development. Monitors the competitive landscape in order to support recommendations for initiatives and/or changes to strategies. 
  • Collaborates with cross function team in evaluating development opportunities within psychiatry, providing US commercial assessment of potential opportunities
  • Acts as the point of contact with Managed Markets leadership to design effective contracting strategies.
  • Works closely with R&D on product development programs to ensure marketable assets can reach approval as well as with Medical Affairs to ensure market launches and plans are effectively supported.
  • Reviews and responds to changing market dynamics, as indicated through market analysis, customer interaction and sales input, to ensure achievement of goals by directing activities of product management and working with medical/marketing communications.
  • Directs the marketing team to maximize utilization of resources, as well as, provides professional development, coaching and performance management of the team.  Hires and develops a high functioning and effective team.
  • Leads fulfillment and distributions strategies, Direct-To-Patient initiatives, customer service programs, and manages conversion and retention strategies.  
  • Works cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure cohesive strategy.
  • Must conduct their work activities in compliance with all AbbVie internal requirements and with all applicable regulatory requirements.  AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements and objectives.

Qualifications

The following listed requirements need to be met at a minimum level to be considered for the job:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline field required; MBA or other advance degree in social science, life sciences, or related area is desired.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of professional industry experience, including at least 5+ years in managerial positions at a medium-to-large health care company, preferably in marketing functions within the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry marketing, sales and business development with established track record in managing industry-based marketing functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and manage budgets.
  • Strong analytical and strategic marketing skills as well as demonstrated ability to learn new disease states
  • Strong financial acumen with a good understanding of P&L drivers and the ability to develop appropriate SG&A investment and top-line sales forecasts that generate long-term value
  • Ability to analyze difficult, complex situations, understand the details, and not get lost in them.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions, deal quickly and effectively with changes, and confront conflict constructively (strong resolution skills), as well as, having high standards for professional conduct.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to make effective presentations to customers, sales team, and senior management.
  • Proven leadership ability to work effectively and influences through others
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize and execute multiple critical issues.
  • Prior sales leadership experience preferred.
