Responsibilities:

  • Work on system level instrument engineering activities 
  • Collaborate with optical, mechanical, fluidic, electrical, and other engineering teams to define system specifications and requirements
  • Contribute to overall development of instrument mechanical, motion, fluidic, and thermal design
  • Work closely with cross disciplinary teams such as chemistry, engineering, and consumables to define system inputs and requirements
  • Contribute to hardware and software integration, test, and characterization of instrument system and subsystem performance
  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to test and troubleshoot instrument performance and feasibility
  • Work with systems and other engineering teams to analyze imaging system performance and stability; propose, verify subsystem specifications and write reports
  • Design, align, test, and characterize optical, illumination and opto-mechanical components to test imaging system performance
  • Work with system and optical engineers to analyze imaging system performance and stability; propose, verify subsystem specifications and reports
  • Collaborate with vendors, other engineering groups, and consumables on subsystem design and transfer to manufacture



Requirements:

  • Minimum BS degree in Physics, Biophysics, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or similar field with 4 years related work experience or PhD in similar field
  • Hands-on with optical, opto-mechanical, fluidic, thermal, or motion components design and testing
  • Experience contributing to complex bioinstrumentation development
  • Experience with data analysis in Labview, MATLAB, python or other programing languages or statistics software
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment and adjust to rapidly evolving technology
  • History of working in multidisciplinary field including biochemistry, chemistry, biology, optics, mechanics, electrical, software is preferred
  • Experience with optical and microfluidic systems preferred
  • Familiarity and experience with motion control systems and instrument automation is preferred
  • Experience with image analysis and signal processing preferred
  • Experience developing documentation for transfer to manufacturing is preferred
  • Experience with fluorescence imaging systems and fluorescence microscopy preferred
