The Systems Integration group is seeking a research associate to assist with ongoing R&D efforts testing product readiness for market.  Ideal candidates will work under the direction of scientists to run and maintain our instruments and assist in the integration of hardware and chemical components. Candidates are expected to be eager to learn and familiar with common molecular biology laboratory techniques.  With mentoring, the candidate will be able to develop and optimize methods/techniques for testing and the evaluation of cutting-edge genomics technologies.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Prepare reagents, buffers, and mixes according to standard protocols
Perform routine testing of system capabilities
Help maintain instrument fleet through routine maintenance and improvement of processes
Meticulously record and organize data from laboratory activities
Work well independently as well as in a small team
Work closely with lead scientists to meet deliverable and timeline goals


Education and experience:
Minimum Bachelors Science with 2+ years experience as an individual contributor in a research laboratory (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered)
Basic algebraic, statistical and mathematical skills and knowledge of general chemistry and molecular biology
Experience with general molecular biology laboratory techniques (e.g., centrifugation, reaction formulation, pipetting, sterile techniques)
Understanding of best practices for DNA and enzyme handling
Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Diligent record keeping and attention to detail
Ability to communicate results clearly to peers and management


Desired Skills:
Familiarity with NGS and its common applications
Advanced statistical analysis particularly the use of statistical software tools (JMP, R, Matlab)
Basic programming skills
Experience running and complex laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, sequencers, flow cytometers, etc.)
