Associate Director of Product Management, Informatics

The Associate Director of Product Management, Informatics will be responsible for all aspects Pacific Biosciences Informatics strategy as it relates to instrument control and analysis software. The role will lead a team of product managers, owners and marketers focused on collecting, assessing and prioritizing customer and market requirements to deliver market-leading products. The role will work closely with the Product Management Leadership team to deliver a holistic product portfolio and strategy (inclusive of third-party offerings) for Pacific Biosciences' overall sequencing business.

Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement informatics product vision and strategy in support of Pacific Biosciences overall financial targets
  • Manage and mentor a team of Informatics Product Managers, Product Owners and Product Marketers
  • Oversee informatics product development as the portfolio commercial leader while ensuring alignment with R&D, production, and other divisions on individual development projects, overall product life cycle processes (product-line forecasting, business reviews, sustaining & support efforts, and commercialization of new releases) and across the portfolio
  • Communicate regularly with sales leadership to align on product development road maps, commercialization, and on-market product management activities
  • Drive sales and customer-enablement activities by working closely with outbound and field marketing groups to ensure effective product launches, marketing campaigns, and education and adoption programs
  • Develop and maintain deep customer relationships, engage thought leaders, and ensure the success of key accounts.
  • Develop and present detailed financial models in support of commercial priorities, product strategies and revenue forecasting.
  • Define customer requirements and commercial strategy for development of new products through deep intimate knowledge of customer needs and use cases
  • Help translate software requirements into user stories with associated prioritization, metrics, and supporting analysis for development teams to deliver in an Agile environment; Represent the broader product marketing team in Scrum meetings and product sprints
  • Work cross-functionally with a core team to creatively develop and test product concepts and ideas
  • Monitor and evaluate product progress through each stage of life cycle and liaise with the product team and end users to deliver updates
  • Liaise with the broader product team to create product marketing materials, promotional campaigns, organize scientific events
  • Collaborate with Applications Lab Scientists, Field Applications Specialists and Engineering, to help developing training programs and documentation
  • Partner with customer support to drive customer feedback


Position Requirements:
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in life science, software development or related field, ideally with >5 years in product management or product marketing positions
  • Degree in molecular biology, engineering, computer science, computer engineering or other related fields required. Ph.D., MBA or other advanced degree desirable, but not required.
  • Excellent knowledge of user-centered design principles
  • Experience with Agile software development process with in-depth knowledge of Scrum and Agile Software Development Methodology
  • Experience across instrument control and analysis software products with associated technical depth in the life science field strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with current bioinformatics tools and software
  • Experience with modern software development and large scale data analysis, including, but not limited to building and deploying software in Linux, Python, HPC systems, cloud deployment, workflow engines, version control and automated software testing
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority, and to work effectively with customers, development, and field teams
  • Outstanding leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Must have an excellent work ethic, proven ability to prioritize effectively, and unquestionable integrity
  • Hands on, high energy, and highly responsive
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
