UX Developer I
Schrodinger Inc. seeks User Experience (UX) Developer I in New York, NY.
Duties: Critically analyze existing UIS and create improved design solutions that meet measurable business goals and requirements. Work with our scientists to find more efficient workflows to our scientific software. Design intuitive screens in software such as photoshop, which capture complex technical user needs. Review designs with users and watch as they work to help identify remaining pain points and inefficiencies. Test workflows as the software is being developed, and identify any bugs as quality assurance team reviews new features. Follow up with customers after software releases to find additional ways to improve usability. Collaborate with designers, scientists, software engineers, product managers, and customers to craft new application designs that help revolutionize drug and materials discovery. Solicit feedback from current customers, internal users, and technical support to identify opportunities to make our software easier to use. Meet with scientists to help design new tools based on their latest research. Attend team meetings with other designers to brainstorm and iterate on designs. Attend development and implementation meetings to follow the project as it progresses through implementation. Attend user conferences and on-site customer visits to work hands-on with users and talk through their day-to-day needs. Conduct usability studies and user research to iteratively improve workflows and overall customer experience. Meet with customers to study their current behavior, such as talking through workflows, requests in similar software, and new ideas they might have. Analyze feedback across various customers to offer potential general solutions to the highest priority items. Gather product requires, design mockups and draft specifications, and meet with various teams to ensure it captures scientific and business goals. Review with sales and marketing teams to communicate new improvements to external audiences. Work with education and support teams to write manuals, tutorials, and webinars to help educate users. Execute full lifecycle of research gathering, mockups, process flows, prototypes, high-fidelity designs via agile UX practices, iterating on user stories that communicate detailed interaction behavior. Identify and prioritize the most pressing user needs through interviews. Interview and solicit feedback from internal and external users. Lead brainstorming and ideation sessions around early paper design ideas. Design early-stage mockups and prototypes to get initial support and validation for design ideas. Integrate feedback into revised versions of designs. Gather stakeholder buy-in by presenting new designs to groups ranging from scientists to software engineers to business personnel; and identifying any remaining opportunities for improvement.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field plus 5 years of experience. Requires 2 years of experience critically analyzing existing UIS and create improved design solutions that meet measurable business goals and requirements; 2 years of experience collaborating with designers, scientists, software engineers, product managers, and customers to craft new application designs; 2 years of experience conducting usability studies and user research to iteratively improve workflows and overall customer experience; 2 years of experience executing full lifecycle of research gathering, mockups, process flows, prototypes, high-fidelity designs via agile UX practices, iterating on user stories that communicate detailed interaction behavior; 1 year of experience in a major design application, such as photoshop; 1 year of experience in wireframing and prototyping.
