Who You Are:

Putting patients first is a core value of BridgeBio which means engaging patients, families, and caregivers throughout the drug development process to understand their challenges and perspectives and to adapt our efforts accordingly. The Director of Family of Education Services will co-lead an effort to develop Patient/Family Education Services at BridgeBio, providing psychosocial support to families on BridgeBio commercialized medicines. You will also help to lead outreach to patient advocacy groups and educate and support the internal teams, ensuring they are well aware of the needs and experience of patients. This position will cover multiple development programs at various stages of the development process.

This position is focused on several clinical and research programs at BridgeBio. You will be responsible for creating a new program, Patient/Family Education Services, and will be the first person to offer services in this program. Part of the role will be to educate colleagues about the purpose and function of FES and gain consensus on how the program will support patients and families in each condition we treat or expect to treat within 1-2 years.  In addition, as part of the patient advocacy team, you will create patient engagement strategic plans for programs at various stages of development. You will collaborate with colleagues on the development operations, medical, business development, and project management teams to plan and implement coherent short and long-term patient engagement goals for the BridgeBio programs to which you are assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the highest level of ethics; act with honesty, integrity, and transparency in collaboration with patients, families, and patient organizations
  • Help design a new patient and family education services program, request input from colleagues, request a review from legal, regulatory, and clinical partners, and help locate the program within BridgeBio pharma
  • Be the first person to staff the new patient/family education services program, working with families with conditions such as MoCD Type A, and Cholangiocarcinoma
  • Provide education and awareness about specific conditions, including inheritance, diagnostic information, and treatment information to patients and families through telephone communication, live patient and family meetings, and group patient education programs
  • Assess the needs of a treated family and develops a care plan to ensure the  treatment process as recommended by the patient’s healthcare provider is taking place without major obstacles
  • Identify services available to each family in their geographies and makes appropriate referrals to local community services as needed
  • Respond to questions from families, and when appropriate, directs them to appropriate health care providers as needed
  • Patient Advocacy Responsibilities:

  • As part of the patient advocacy team, develop patient engagement plans detailing our work with patient advocacy organizations, as well as individual patients and families
  • Work with BridgeBio teams to incorporate patient and family objectives into clinical development plans and can weave the patient and caregiver perspective into all activities and planning
  • Manage external communications across several channels to promote active patient and stakeholder engagement at relevant conferences, patient organizations, and disease-specific events
  • Arrange and facilitate regular meetings with patient organizations, listening to the issues and concerns they are addressing, and providing updates on  the clinical programs, goals, and values of BridgeBio, together with colleagues from
  • Provide input on clinical documents, including protocols and patient recruitment plans, by advocating the needs and opinions of the patient community to internal stakeholders
  • Build and maintain solid global relationships with patients, families, support groups, and other stakeholders in therapeutic areas of interest
  • Conduct patient advisory boards and other activities to listen to the needs, experience, and opinions of patients and their family members at appropriate stages of clinical development
  • In some instances, interact with physicians,  health care providers, and professional organizations about the conditions for which we are developing therapies and  the needs of the patient community


Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years as a patient education liaison at a biotech, pharmaceutical company, preferably in rare diseases
  • A post-graduate degree and licensure in genetic counseling
  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements, health care systems, and drug development is a plus
  • We seek someone who is innovative and can think outside the box to creatively and rapidly identify novel strategies to engage and understand small patient and caregiver populations and to help lay a foundation for families to connect and, if they wish, form an independent organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required; should be flexible, personable, with the ability to easily collaborate with colleagues and advocates
  • Travel can constitute up to 20% of the time for this position
  • Communicative ability in a second language would be highly valuable
