The Laboratory Operations Instrumentation Specialist reports to the Laboratory Operations Manager and provides Calibration services, equipment repairs and preventive maintenance for all lab and GMP environments within Precision BioSciences. The Laboratory Operations Instrumentation Specialist will work closely with Scientists, IT, Site EHS, Procurement, and the Facilities team to help ensure smooth operations.

  • Work closely with the Laboratory Operations team to help drive and achieve department goals, objectives and prioritize work
  • Coordinate vendor periodic maintenance and calibrations using ProCal CMMS, with an emphasis on driving efficiency and consistency in functions and processes at all locations
  • Provide Calibration services as needed
  • Provide troubleshooting and resolution for instrumentation issues
  • Create/modify SOPs for lab operations and instrument maintenance/calibration
  • Work with IT to ensure data integrity from laboratory instruments and compatibility with IT systems
  • Manage laboratory/instrument applications to ensure version control and updates
  • Stay current with emerging instrumentation/lab automation practices, and champion opportunities to improve lab operations
  • Must be willing to respond to off-hour issues and help with facility walk-throughs as needed

Laboratory Safety:
  • Key Contributor for Safety Committee. Develop, manage, and train Precision Staff on safety best practices
  • Manage all MSDS documentation

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or Associates degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or other related technical field with 3+ years of experience of laboratory instrumentation experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry; or equivalent knowledge and work experience

Required:
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical GMP lab required
  • GMP and GLP experience
  • Strong experience in calibrations, and Laboratory equipment troubleshooting and repair
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, ELN, LIMS, and CMMS
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, equipment documentation or governmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the Laboratory Operations Manager
  • Ability to calculate and perform basic mathematical equations necessary for calibrations and equipment troubleshooting
  • Ability to define equipment and instrumentation issues and determine the best course of action for completing necessary repairs
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to set and complete schedules
  • Proficient in computer skills that include spreadsheets, presentations and word processing software and Microsoft Office required.
  • Ability to support Precision CMMS and laboratory applications
  • Ability to respond to site emergencies in Durham and RTP within 30 minutes

Preferred:
  • Aseptic experience
  • Experience with ProCal (CMMS)

Location & Travel Requirements
  • This is an office-based position located at the main headquarters in downtown Durham, NC and may be required to travel as needed to other PBI facilities in the RTP area
