We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we'll develop for a range of severe diseases.

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated scientist with a strong background in cryo-EM structural biology (Cryogenic electron microscopy) to join our dynamic and highly-collaborative protein sciences team. The successful candidate will work independently to solve structures of small molecule-bound protein complexes, including preparing cryo-EM grids and assisting with data collection. The candidate will also have opportunities to help establish cryo-EM workflows and implement and automate processing software. As a member of the drug discovery team, you will work independently and collaborate with team members across disciplines and present results in team meetings.

Your role in Navigating the Maze
  • Process single particle cryo-EM data, including handling raw data, interpretation, 3D reconstruction and map refinement, and model-building for diverse projects
  • Prepare cryo-EM and negative stain samples
  • Express and purify recombinant proteins and protein-protein complexes
  • Support drug discovery efforts by obtaining atomic resolution single particle cryo-EM structures of protein targets bound to inhibitors
  • Support high-performance structural biology computing infrastructure including management of large data storage and processing clusters
  • Train scientists in cryo-EM data processing using state-of-the-art software for 3D reconstructions, atomic model building, and in fundamentals of cryo-EM sample handling and preparation
  • Evaluate and implement new technology to advance protein sciences at Maze

Your Navigation tools
  • PhD or equivalent in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry or a related field with documented experience in cryo-EM of proteins
  • Experience with cryo-EM sample preparation protocols including negative staining and sample vitrification
  • Strong expertise in single particle cryo-EM image processing and 3D reconstruction (expertise using programs such as RELION, CryoSPARC)
  • Expert on data-processing and structure solution of protein-protein complexes and membrane protein complexes
  • Hands-on experience in modern protein purification and chromatography techniques. Knowledge of biochemical and biophysical assays (MST, DSF, SPR) to characterize binding interactions would be an advantage
  • Experience with Linux OS (installation, configuration, and maintenance)
  • Experience with software for model-building and refinement such as CCP4-em, Coot etc.
  • Demonstrated record of success with a strong publication record
  • Organized, detail-oriented, excellent record-keeping skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and perform well in a team environment
