Scientist III/Lead, NGS (dc)

Adverum is looking for a Scientist III/Lead, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) with strong leadership and communication skills to build a NGS pipeline to develop best-in-class AAV gene therapy products. Working with our collaborators and inter-disciplinary colleagues, the individual will be the strategic thought leader on all aspects of the NGS pipeline, including NGS evaluation of current research pipeline programs as well as the evaluation of AAV gene therapy product attributes. The individual will provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams and regularly interface with internal and external colleagues to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of data. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and accomplished scientific leader with demonstrated experience building a NGS pipeline.
 

What you'll do:

• Build and manage NGS pipeline for both direct product evaluation and in vivo product assessment
• Actively initiate and design the strategy to test NGS technologies in collaboration with Research and CMC colleagues
• Lead NGS data analysis and be responsible for accurate data recording
• Provide expert opinions and develop effective group leadership within Adverum
• Stay up to date on the literature and technical advancements to improve NGS capabilities by identifying novel approaches and proposing experimental plans to test the hypotheses with the internal team and at CROs
• Collaborate with colleagues across the organization and build partnerships with experts in the field.
• Ability to write scientific manuscripts, review regulatory documents and represent Adverum at national and international conferences.

About you:

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry or closely related discipline with at least 8 years of drug development experience in biotech
• Deep understanding of next generation sequencing and analysis as well as molecular biology and biochemistry methodologies
• Knowledge of cutting-edge technology in NGS for evaluation of gene therapy product and in vivo applications, including Illumina and Ion Torrent short-read sequencing, as well as PacBio and Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing
• Experience with regulatory requirements, documentation and appropriate experimental controls for NGS data generation
• Effective communication and influencing skills with the proven ability to succeed in cross-functional initiatives
• Track record of being a strategic leader and a key stakeholder for senior leaders across complex organizations
• Recognized leader in NGS as evidenced by publications in leading peer reviewed journals
• Experience managing budgets and timelines for multiple projects
• Exceptional verbal, presentation and written communication skills
• Excellent team player and mentor, with good interpersonal skills
