As a Scientist/Senior Scientist within AbbVie Drug Delivery Sciences, you will work as a key part of a talented, multidisciplinary and cross-functional team to build cutting-edge new capabilities for the sustained delivery of biologics, and advance product candidates through early R&D.  The ideal candidate has demonstrated research experience in protein formulations, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, and has the desire and capacity to grow as part of a dynamic, high performing team.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and executes the preparation and characterization of protein formulations
• Designs and tests new protein formulations to enable the development of novel sustained release technologies
• Applies an in-depth understanding of protein stability and degradation mechanisms and excipients to solve complex stability problems related to sustained delivery
• Coordinates cross-functional activities with key stakeholders.
• Maintains timely and accurate laboratory records consistent with good documentation practices
• Contributes to AbbVie's patent estate
• Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field with typically 0-5 years of related experience (Scientist) or 5-10 years of related experience (Senior Scientist)
• Candidates with BS/MS degrees in the above fields will also be considered with significant experience required, typically 5 - 10+ years
• Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time
• Job level will be commensurate with experience

Essential Skills and Abilities

• A thorough knowledge of protein stability and degradation mechanisms will be essential
• Prior experience in early-stage protein formulation development including designing and conducting developability assessment tests  preferred
• Hands on experience in protein characterization techniques including SEC, IEC, CE-SDS, mass spec, CD, IR, DLS and DSC will be required
• The successful candidate will have a solid track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at a national-level conferences in the area of protein formulation and stability
• Excellent scientific approach and communication skills, both oral and written, are prerequisites
• Good interpersonal and team skills
• A strong sense of urgency and ability to operate in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment
• A desire and capacity to learn, drive continuous improvement, and develop novel solutions to problems
