JOB SUMMARY:

The Scientist I will interact with the R&D, Bio-Engineering and Clinical Science groups to generate novel therapeutic candidates and reagents for the continuous advancement of innovative immune-oncology.  As part of this directive, this individual is expected to lead preclinical efforts for a wide array of Translational Biology projects as determined by management. The individual will also interact heavily within the Translational Biology framework and as needed within the larger organization to support research activities to meet evolving company needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements and develops preclinical ex vivo and in vivo tumor models by executing all aspects of the research plan to meet project milestones.
  • Actively facilitates the transition of knowledge base and/or projects to or from Bioengineering, R&D or Clinical Science.
  • Interacts within the Translational Biology group to determine delegation of various project activities within Bioengineering, R&D or Clinical Science groups as appropriate.
  • Participates in efforts toward identification, prioritization, and validation of novel target candidates.
  • Presents research to all scientific departments, management, Board of Directors, or other advisors as needed.
  • Participates in external collaborations, licensing, and partnerships as needed.
  • Assists with the implementation of intellectual property as needed.
  • Participates in the development of SOP documentation.
  • Provides support for Regulatory, Bio-Engineering, and other departments as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Ph.D. degree with 1 or 2-years’ industry or academia experience in cancer biology is highly recommended.  

  • Experience in immunology is desirable.
  • Experience with pre-clinical mice model is required.
  • Experience with research skills in molecular and protein biology is required.

Must possess:

  • Strong working knowledge of cancer biology or tumor immunology fields required.
  • Able and willing to interact within highly productive and agile research teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with interdisciplinary teams, in a cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • High degree of motivation and scientific curiosity to learn new techniques.
  • Receptiveness to feedback from senior group members.
  • Excellent record-keeping and good document skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project goals and timelines.
  • Adept at Microsoft Office applications and GraphPad Prism to be able to critically evaluate datasets.

JOB SCOPE:

Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.  Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.  Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk, or hear in a standard office environment.  In a lab setting, occasionally use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls.  Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
