Mammoth Biosciences, Inc. is harnessing the diversity of nature to power the next-generation of CRISPR products. Through the discovery and development of novel CRISPR systems, the company is enabling the full potential of its platform to read and write the code of life. By leveraging its internal research and development and exclusive licensing to patents related to Cas12, Cas13, Cas14 and CasPhi, Mammoth Biosciences can provide enhanced diagnostics and genome editing for life science research, healthcare, agriculture, biodefense and more. Mammoth is democratizing disease detection with easy and affordable point-of-care tests that allow real-time and simultaneous detection of multiple conditions, along with high-throughput tests that allow for unprecedented testing volume. Further, the company is transforming disease treatment with its proprietary micro-sized CRISPR proteins that enable new editing and delivery options. Based in Brisbane, CA, Mammoth Biosciences is co-founded by CRISPR pioneer and Nobel Prize winner Jennifer Doudna and principal founders Trevor Martin, Janice Chen, and Lucas Harrington. The firm is backed by top institutional investors including Decheng, Mayfield, NFX, and 8VC, and leading individual investors including Brook Byers, Tim Cook, Bob Nelsen, and Jeff Huber.

Mammoth is currently seeking a creative and detail-oriented Scientist with expertise in process development to join our Discovery team. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively and cross-functionally with colleagues to develop and deploy molecular biology and/or biochemistry processes -- such as protein engineering or E. coli positive selection screening -- to support the discovery, characterization, and development of novel Cas nucleases for genome editing.

The successful candidate will collaborate with teammates on identifying the appropriate process for development and evaluate its technical requirements, feasibility, and risk, and then realize it through proof-of-concept experiments to deployment of a functional process that fulfills needs in the Discovery workflow. This is an excellent opportunity for researchers who want to contribute to development of cutting-edge CRISPR technologies.

    • Familiarization with literature on methods to screen or/and engineer Cas nucleases
    • Leverage knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry as well as working understanding of synthetic biology, NGS, and automation tools to solve scientific problems
    • Carry out experiments, iterate and troubleshoot when necessary, and critically evaluate the results to support process development and deployment
    • Detailed, accurate, and timely documentation of experimental procedures, data, and analysis
    • Regular communications of data and analysis results to team members
    • Conduct all activities in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to environmental health and safety requirements

    • Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field, or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of biotechnology industry experience
    • Experience successfully developing wet lab biological processes in academic or industry setting
    • Experience with molecular cloning, genome engineering, and/or high-throughput phenotype screening

    • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, execute, troubleshoot, and complete technical projects or complex experiments
    • Experience with protein engineering using directed evolution or mutagenesis or development of positive selection screens in E. coli
    • Experience with development or application of CRISPR-Cas tools
    • Experience with quantitative data and application of statistics to strengthen experimental design and robustness of analysis
    • Experience with high-throughput laboratory automation (e.g. Tecan liquid handlers, Agilent Bravo, ZAG)
    • Experience or proficiency with SQL, R, Python, and JMP
    • 2 years of biotechnology industry experience
