We are currently searching for a Scientific Resource Specialist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Hamilton, Montana at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Apply subject matter expertise, working creatively and effectively with potentially sensitive groups and situations, including development and coordination of interdisciplinary teams, to address the needs of RML staff related to Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS), well-being, and teambuilding development.
  • Plan, implement, facilitate, and evaluate evidence-based programs between the NIH and the RML campus focusing on the Workforce Model of financial well-being, physical well-being, social well-being, community well-being, and purpose/career well-being.
  • Deliver educational resources, develop curriculum(a), educational materials, one-on-one consultations, and small group instruction to advance the knowledge base of RML staff members.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for professional development in related program areas in partnership with respective laboratory and program offices and interagency colleagues at the RML campus.
  • Involve RML staff members in identifying needs and priorities, creating, developing, and implementing appropriate and responsive educational programming.
  • Develop professional partnerships with NIH and community stakeholders that advance the mission of and increase success in identifying and meeting the needs of RML staff members.
  • Build, direct, and maintain coalitions with community boards and organizations as needed to improve relationships with the RML staff, stakeholders, and interests.
  • Participate in scheduled RML team meetings and represent RML on interagency working groups and at stakeholder engagements.
  • Facilitate effective communication between DIR and the RML campus. Utilize all available media sources, including print and electronic versions of newsletters, email, the internet, and other advancing technology, to communicate with RML staff and stakeholders.
  • Serve as an extension of the senior leadership to help identify improvements and optimizations that would strengthen the RML community.
  • Develop and provide recommendations to senior leadership for potential implementation as appropriate.
  • Assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies; comply with all NIH requirements.
  • Maintain close ties with senior leadership, main campus programs and offices located in Bethesda, MD.
  • Travel as needed, and at times work nights and weekends, to accomplish agreed upon outcomes.
  • Implement additional initiatives or projects at the request of task leader.


  • Master of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • At least fifteen (15) years' experience in Family and Consumer Sciences or a related field.
  • Experience working at RML is required.
