We are seeking an R&D Specialist to join our growing Microscopy Core serving all of Research. You will work with imaging scientists to execute a wide variety of cell-, organoid-, and tissue-based imaging experiments using optical microscopy, with a particular emphasis on in vitro live cell, live organoids, or explants.

In this role, a typical day may include:
• Work closely with the lead microscopy scientist to understand project needs and priorities, troubleshoot experiments, and provide updates on the progress of projects.
• Development and execution of microscopic imaging experiments of tissue and cell samples with light microscopes, including fluorescence, confocal, high content, and lightsheet.
• Cell, tissue culture and sample preparation for microscopic imaging.
• Independent execution of immunocytochemistry or immunofluorescence staining experiments, including thick tissue, organoids, and whole organs.
• Handling small animals including euthanasia followed by perfusion and dissection.
• Perform vital maintenance, including cleaning, routine calibration, etc on light microscopes.
• Rendering and analyzing microscopy data to generate communicative reports

This role may be for you if you:
• Enjoy executing complex experiments with sophisticated optical microscopes, such as confocal, fluorescence, and widefield.
• Are proficient in developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing staining, imaging, & analysis protocols for ICC, IHC/IF experiments
• Have a proven history of culturing cell, tissue, organoids, or explants
• You have strong organization and documentation skills
• A passion for biology and a dedication to share, collaborate, and lift up others

To be considered for this role, you must have a BS+5 years, or MSc+3, in biology, bioengineering, or related sciences. We need someone with experience with microscopy related experimental work including expert use of relevant optical microscopes, immunocytochemistry, and cell and tissue culture. Familiarity with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, sample preparation and sectioning, as well maintenance of optical microscopes is important. You should be comfortable developing image acquisition routines using vendor provided software, like Zeiss Zen or Leica LAS, or similar.
