Piper Companies is currently seeking an Upstream Process Development Scientist in the Raleigh-Durham area. The Upstream Process Development Scientist will join an innovative environment of excellence within a leading Biopharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Company.

Responsibilities for the Upstream Process Development Scientist include:

• Independently solves problems as they arise and contributes to group efforts in at least one area of expertise

• Develops studies for client projects that include experimental design, set-up, maintenance and harvest of shake flasks, bench-scale bioreactors and 50 L and 200 L single-use bioreactors (SUBs) 

• Supports upstream cell culture process development in both development and manufacturing areas

• Continually develops knowledge of innovative principles and theory and maintains a current understanding of cGMP and other regulatory requirements

Qualifications for the Upstream Process Development Scientist include:

• Direct experience with cell culture and bioreactors 

• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

• Degree in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent with M.S. with 5+ years or Ph.D. with 2+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience in downstream process development

Compensation for the Upstream Process Development Scientist includes:

• Salary Range: $85,000-$95,000 based on experience
