AN2 is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the overall financial plans and accounting practices of the Company, including accounting, financial reporting, treasury, planning, risk management and tax compliance. Major responsibilities include financial oversight and compliance, risk assessment, policy and systems enhancement and business planning and analysis. The Controller will be responsible for establishing appropriate internal controls/systems, public company reporting processes (including an S-1, 10-K, 10-Q, etc.) and for Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) compliance. This position reports to the CFO and works closely with the senior management team and others throughout the organization, as well as with key external parties and advisors.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, etc.

  • Prepare Board and management internal financial reporting packages, including analytical review.

  • Prepare external financial statements in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations.

  • Lead the preparation of any required SEC documents, including the initial S-1 and all periodic filings, including 10-Qs, 10-Ks, S-3s and any other financial filings.

  • Establish and maintain internal and operational controls necessary to monitor performance and comply with SOX 404, as required.

  • Responsible for the planning function, including budgeting, forecasting and long range planning.

  • Perform various financial analyses, including the financial implications of proposed licensing and other contracts and transactions.  

  • Act as primary liaison with external auditors; prepare and coordinate all appropriate material for quarterly reviews and annual audits.

  • Oversee risk management and treasury management.

  • Coordinate tax compliance, including overseeing the preparation of tax returns and other required tax filings.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives, including upgrade from Quickbooks accounting system.

  • Other financial and administrative projects and responsibilities as necessary.

    Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in public and private accounting, with a preference for a Big 4 CPA.

  • Strong preference is to have at least 4 years experience directing financial operations and building teams within a growing pharmaceutical/biotech company,

  • Experience establishing accounting processes and internal controls; SOX 404 compliance experience also strongly preferred.

  • Strong technical expertise in the areas of SEC reporting and financial accounting; prior experience with an initial public offering is a plus.

  • Must have excellent business judgment and possess strong leadership skills. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with all levels of personnel, including senior management and non-financial staff.

  • Ability to think strategically and still maintain an attention to detail.

  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Familiar and comfortable working in a small, growing company, able to work remotely will all functions in the organization.

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with Quick Books Online and upgrades to an ERP system are a plus.

  • Education: BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Finance/Accounting or equivalent; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
