Adverum is looking for a seasoned Director, Accounting Operations to join our team based in Redwood City, CA. Reporting to Corporate Controller, this position offers a great opportunity for someone who is hands-on, roll up your sleeves type and enjoys a fast-paced, high growth environment. This role is expected to bring in extensive experience in Accounting Operations, strong business acumen and partnership, and enthusiasm about process optimization.
 
What you'll do:

General Responsibilities
·       Provide leadership to all accounting operations including Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Cash Management, Expense Reporting, and General ledgers.
·       Partner with other groups within the Accounting organization including Payroll, R&D Clinical Accounting, and Manufacturing Accounting to ensure accuracy and timeliness in critical accounting matters.
Ensure internal controls are operating effectively around Accounting Operation. Identify improvement opportunities and drive the implementation of changes.
Take a key role in the Company’s SOX program including walkthroughs and control testing.
Collaborate with key cross-functional partners (HR, Legal, IT) and business teams to support corporate initiatives. 
Provide oversight to subsidiaries bookkeeping and monthly reporting. Support subsidiaries’ statutory audit, tax return and annual reporting.
·       Manage transactional taxes such as Use Tax, 1099 reporting, etc.
·       Provide mentorship to team members. Advocate Adverum’s mission and align with each member’s goals.
 
Financial Close
·       Drive monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process. Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
·       Oversee month-end close calendar and checklist. Ensure timely delivery.
·       Review and approve journal entries, analysis, account reconciliations, and reporting material of all entities. Prepare complex non-standard journal entries and GL account reconciliations.
·       Perform quarterly cost allocations for departments and cost plus between entities.
·       Coordinate with R&D Clinical Accounting and Manufacturing Accounting to integrate accounting and reporting.
·       Lead the team to perform monthly flux analysis for balance sheet and income statement.
 
Support Annual Audit and Quarterly Review
·       Participate in the development of 10-Q/K Filing Calendar to establish a clear timeline integrated with financial close.
As the primary contact with external auditor, participate in audit planning for quarterly review and year-end audit. Manage PBC items. Address Accounting Operation related questions.
·       Assist in preparation of package for outside tax service provider.

About you:
·       Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
·       Strong knowledge of US GAAP
·       Prior experience in a biotech company functioning in a similar role a must, including managing a team of direct reports.
·       Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with other Microsoft Office programs.
·       Experience in NetSuite, Oracle or SAP a must.
·       Excellent oral and written communication skills.
·       Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and balance competing priorities in a progressive environment.
·       Highly motivated, passionate, proactive, and confident in identifying problems and solutions.
