Product Owner, Bioinformatics and Sequencing Platforms

The Product Owner will be responsible for all aspects of Agile software development as it relates to sequencing instrument control and analysis software. The position will focus on collecting, assessing and prioritizing customer and market requirements and translating these into user stories while working closely with development to deliver market-leading products. This role will also take ownership of prioritizing these needs and managing the backlog to help deliver a holistic product portfolio and strategy for the overall sequencing business.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with prospective users and the product marketing team to understand and anticipate their needs and translate them into product requirements
  • Assist in defining the vision for the product marketing team's products
  • Experience translating software requirements into user stories for development teams to deliver in an Agile environment
  • Translate on an ongoing basis product requirements into user stories with associated prioritization, metrics, and supporting analysis
  • Manage the product backlog and prioritize the tickets based on changing requirements
  • Represent the broader product marketing team in Scrum meetings and product sprints
  • Monitor and evaluate product progress at each stage of the process
  • Liaise with the product team and end users to deliver updates
  • Be a champion for Pacific Biosciences' customers, representing their needs in the sequencing informatics space
  • Assist in developing a holistic product strategy for the broader sequencing business to meet company objectives
  • Work cross-functionally with a core team to creatively develop and test product concepts and ideas
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams including but not limited to R&D, Sales, Program Management, Finance and Manufacturing to ensure successful implementation of product requirements
  • Liaise with the broader product team to create product marketing materials, promotional campaigns, organize scientific events
  • Collaborate with Applications Lab Scientists, Field Applications Specialists and Engineering, to help developing training programs and documentation
  • Partner with customer support to drive customer feedback


Position Requirements:
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in life science, software development or related field, ideally with >3 years in product management or product owner positions
  • Degree in molecular biology, engineering, computer science, computer engineering or other related fields required. Ph.D., MBA or other advanced degree desirable, but not required.
  • Excellent knowledge of user-centered design principles
  • Experience with Agile software development process with in-depth knowledge of Scrum and Agile Software Development Methodology
  • Experience across instrument control and analysis software products with associated technical depth in the life science field strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority, and to work effectively with customers, development, and field teams
  • Outstanding leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Must have an excellent work ethic, proven ability to prioritize effectively, and unquestionable integrity
  • Hands on, high energy, and highly responsive
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
