Molecular Templates (MTEM) is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company targeting a variety of cancers through development of its innovative proprietary Engineered Toxin Body (ETB)

platform. MTEM's first immunotoxin, MT-3724, is in clinical development for non-Hodgkin's

Position Overview:

The Laboratory Technician is an integral member of the research and development (R&D) team and will support general laboratory operations and perform basic laboratory techniques with a focus on the assistance with overall function of the cell culture lab including media and reagent preparation, inventory, lab upkeep and equipment maintenance. The position will require knowledge of basic laboratory procedures such as aseptic technique and previous experience using pipettors. This is a laboratory-based position in a team setting. This position will require excellent organizational and time-management skills, ability to follow verbal and written instruction, plus ability to prioritize tasks.

Job Responsibilities will include:
  • Perform basic laboratory procedures according to established SOPs and under supervision of laboratory management
  • SDS-PAGE gel preparation, gel imaging, solution preparation, dilutions, aliquotting, and basic assay procedure
  • Accurate and prompt documentation of procedure results
  • Routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance of general laboratory equipment
  • Lab supply maintenance including purchasing, receiving and inventory system curation
  • Regular maintenance of reagent and material inventories including preparation of cell cultures reagents and buffers
  • Prepare and handle tasks under aseptic conditions and practice aseptic technique for buffer preparation
  • Labware sterilization, distribution and maintenance as needed
  • Sterilize and conduct waste disposal using autoclave
  • Organization, maintenance, and inventory of lab equipment
  • Maintain routine calibration and cleaning schedules of appropriate equipment.
  • Complete additional tasks or projects, as needed

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required; Associates or Bachelor's degree, preferred
  • Previous lab-based experience (academic or industry) is preferred.
  • Experience with general laboratory equipment (autoclave, centrifuge, pH meter, pipettes, balances, biosafety cabinets, vortex, incubators)
  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and facilitate cross-functional communication
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction and work under supervision
  • Ability to follow safety protocol at all times
  • Basic computer skill required
  • Ability to demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality

Physical Requirements:

Ability to regularly move materials weighing up to 30 pounds to a shelf located 4-6 feet in height; Stand for long periods of time; At times, will be required to sit for long periods of time; Bend twist, push/pull, crouch, kneel; Read and understand chemical labels; Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects, for example, keypads on laboratory equipment, keyboard, phone, fax/copy/scanning machine, calculator, label maker and etc.; Visualization necessary to participate in business functions of the position to see in the normal visual range with or without correction (e.g. meetings, training sessions, etc.); Ability to hear in order to participate in business functions of the position in the normal audio range with or without correction (e.g. use of phone, participate in meetings, training sessions, etc.).

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to R&D management. This can vary in level depending on the specific assignments.
