Adverum Biotechnologies is looking for an experienced Director of Facilities to support the new manufacturing plant in RTP. This individual will provide leadership and strategic planning for all aspects of the facility, including our future space requirements and providing solutions that are appropriate for the anticipated growth of our physical plant.  Additionally, this individual will support and manage a team which is in line with the business plan and budget, participate and provide leadership in sourcing services, and collaborate closely with site leadership team members.  This position will report into the Site Head.
What you'll do:
  • Responsible for building and managing the maintenance, safety, metrology, utilities, and security teams of the RTP site.
  • Contribute technical, practical, and operational expertise to the design and construction of  Adverum’s GMP manufacturing facility
  • Contribute as an integral part of a Senior Plant Leadership team to drive the plant strategy and culture, while aligning with processes and themes at Adverum headquarters
  • Provide technical leadership/guidance, as well as be responsible for daily maintenance, facilities, grounds, and utility maintenance.  Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs for both GMP and non-GMP areas. 
  • In partnership with Engineering, implement and maintain a comprehensive CMMS.   Evaluate and prioritize work order notifications for the maintenance team, and ensure timely execution against the preventive maintenance schedule for production equipment, infrastructure, and processing systems
  • Serve as functional mentor and support for facilities and EHS staff members on matters related to worker protection and physical safety.
  • Help plan and participate in EHS compliance assessments and audits working cross-functional, assessing compliance with EHS standards as well as local/regional regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintain interface with third-party owners (Landlords), ensuring total contract (Lease) compliance, accurate and timely reporting, and resolve critical impact tenant relations issues
  • Manage site construction projects from inception to completion, including the selection of vendors and contractors. Determine the needs of affected departments and ensure projects are designed to meet the company’s business requirements. 
  • Manage the workplace teams optimizing individual performance, encouraging personal and department development and recognizing achievement. Regularly review staffing levels, performance, succession planning, training and recruitment.  
  • Ensure compliance with building codes and applicable local rules, regulations, and laws. 
  • Monitor facility requests and required support from other departments ensuring prompt resolutions. 
  • Consult and strategize with other departments such as Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Supply Chain, Process Sciences, and IT to ensure site needs are fulfilled in a timely and cost-effective manner. 
  • Assume budgetary responsibility for the department including long-range planning. Source and manage vendors as required for the workplace and related activities. 
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed 

About you:
  • A minimum 10+ years of facility management experience 
  • Comprehensive technical understanding of building systems necessary to operate a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility including, WFI, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, plant steam and building controls systems
  • A proven leader who motivates others to collaborate effectively and deliver outstanding operational and strategic results 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to present to and influence peers and executive leadership 
  • Broad experience with Employee Health and Safety, Security and Risk Management 
  • Experience managing facilities with mixed office and lab space 
  • Good knowledge of codes, regulations and laws that affect lab and office spaces and buildings; 
  • Be highly organized 
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and engineering reports 
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction management, business or engineering preferred (or equivalent experience). Master’s degree in business also desirable
