Element Biosciences is a multi-disciplinary startup focused on innovating genetic analysis tools for the research and clinical markets. The Company's technology will broaden the end user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis in healthcare.

Seeking an experienced consumables engineering manager who is passionate about life science and developing consumables which enable intuitive workflows and simplicity of usage.  This involves designing products integrating with systems with pumps, valves, manifolds, seal theory and practice based around low volume (mL) fluidic transport spanning fluidic simulation to hands on empirical testing and verification.  This includes working with operations addressing dFMA as well as their manufacturing and final pack out requirements, equipment, and packaging.

You will make an impact by working cross-functionally to deliver cutting edge solutions to customers to empower the disruptive DNA sequencing and bioscience platforms.

Responsibilities:

  •  Contribute to the product development of consumables and their interfaces with instrumentation and equipment including: analysis of fluidic flow and impedances while characterizing the fluidic interfaces such as volume flow rates, dead volumes, fluidic budgets and waste, etc. and optimization strategies for transfer/flow in small volume (mL) and microfluidic (uL) ranges.
  • Participate in the overall development of system platform design of consumables through hardware selection and software development based on the consumable Integration/interfaces including test fixtures, prototypes, packaging & shipping, and system testing and troubleshooting.
  • Plan, recommend, and help implement team goals and projects including activities involving identifying new technology, facility and equipment requirements or improvements.
  • Responsibility for building prototypes and/or fixtures necessary for testing, verification, and validation of product consumables and their fluidic subsystems and integration.
  • Actively foster positive collaborations with vendors, consumable & instrumentation engineering groups, and other internal groups to achieve individual and team goals
  • Ownership and/or contribution to consumable product requirements, specification and of V&V documentation, reports, and their executions

  • 5-9 years’ experience working on plastic parts including plastic injection molding, roto-molding, vacuum molding, blow molding as well as familiarity with their packaging and shipping requirements.
  • Prior experience of product consumables in the Life Science & Biotech and/or medical industry a must such as sequencing, HPLC, flow cytometry, fluidic system platforms, etc.
  • Experience managing and working on consumer products from low to high volume manufacturing of plastic products, particular involving fluidics devices and/or containers with complete range of thermal shipping conditions.
  • Excellent project and communication skills enabling cross-functional collaborations and ability to effectively manage team and projects to address company goals and schedules
  • Experience in good engineering practices, tools, and processes, including dFMA, FEMA, DHF, lean manufacturing, and/or Six Sigma
